Hereof, how do you mount a boat speedometer pitot? more
Speedometer (Pitot Tube Type) The pitot tube speedometer operates by air pressure changes in the hose and speedometer. Water is pushed through the pitot into the hose, compressing the air. Air pressure increases with boat speed, causing the gauge to indicate faster speeds.
What causes a boat speedometer to stop working?
Find a place on the transom to mount the pitot tube. It should be well clear of strakes, trim tabs, rudders and propellers, and the tip of the pitot should extend at least 2 inches below the hull. Screw the pitot bracket to the transom with the pitot pointing straight down. [links]
