An Injection Pump is the device that pumps fuel into the cylinders of a diesel engine. Traditionally, the injection pump was driven indirectly from the crankshaft by gears, chains or a toothed belt (often the timing belt) that also drives the camshaft.

For normal automobile operation, you will not need to prime your electric fuel pump. You can use the prime switch when your engine may seem to start to die or when the filters in the car become clogged. Some models of electric fuel pumps do not need to be primed by hand as they have a self priming feature built in.

After disconnecting the fuel injection lines, use a 12mm socket to remove the three bolts that are located at the very front of the injection pump which holds the pump drive gear to the pump. After these three bolts are removed, use a 13mm socket to remove the three nuts that hold the injection pump to the block.

Petrol Injector Cleaner (PIC) should be used every 2,500km. For Diesel: Pro-Strength Diesel Fuel System Extreme Clean should be used once every 10,000km. Diesel Injector Cleaner (DIC) should be used in every tank of diesel.

Turn the engine over until you can get to the one on the away side, then back to the one that is near the notch. Loosen both bolts a turn or 2. Then to adjust fuel move that little notch. In the direction of rotation to lean, away from rotation to richen. [links]

Solution There is an easy do-it-yourself way to test your injectors & pump. 1- remove the injector from your engine. 2- hook the steel fuel line back up the the injector with the injector facing away from the engine. 4- turn the engine over and let the fuel spray out of the injector onto a piece of cardboard.

Subsequently, question is, how does a injector pump work? [links]

An Injection Pump is the device that pumps diesel (as the fuel) into the cylinders of a diesel engine. It rotates at half crankshaft speed in a conventional four-stroke diesel engine. Its timing is such that the fuel is injected only very slightly before top dead centre of that cylinder's compression stroke. more

Listen for the vehicle's electric lift pump to begin transferring diesel from the fuel tank to the fuel filter housing and, in turn, the injector pump. The lift pump will sound like a buzzing coming from the fuel tank. If you do not hear the lift pump working, bump the engine a second time. [links]

Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the "on" position and turn it slightly toward the "start" position to bump the starter. Release the key after approximately one to two seconds so that it returns to the "on" position. here

Injection pumps play an integral role in the operation of diesel-powered vehicles. The part allows diesel cars and trucks to run by delivering an exact amount of fuel, under very high pressure, to each injector at a specified time interval. As the fuel is delivered from the injection pump, each injector disburses the fuel into the motor's cylinders, where it combusts, and keeps the motor running. During routine maintenance, such as fuel filter replacements, you may need to prime the injection pump to remove air from the fuel system.

Loosen the nuts connecting the injectors to the motor head. This will allow any air between the injection pump and injectors to exit the system during priming. more

Work with a partner to watch for fuel coming from the injector lines where you previously loosened the connection nuts. Re-tighten the nuts when fuel begins to flow out of the injector lines. At this time, your injector pump is primed with fuel.

With the injector lines re-connected to the head, crank the vehicle and allow it to begin running.

An engine is the most fragile part of a car, and an injection pump has a big role in maintaining its health. Therefore, as soon as you detect a problem with your injection pump, it is best to visit a service center. This is because doing it yourself might add to your problems instead of solving it if you are not an expert at this.

The most common problem that people face with a faulty injection pump is the difficulty in starting their vehicle. This is caused when the engine does not receive the adequate amount of fuel it needs from the injection pump. When this problem occurs, check your injection pump for any issues. here

If that is the case, then drill the lines to minimize the block or replace the injection lines with new ones. Sometimes, the injection nozzle can also become defective. In such cases, clean it. And if the problem persists, replace the nozzle.

The main task that is fulfilled by an injection pump is fuelling the engine with diesel or any other fuel. It directly pumps it down to the combustion chamber of the engine, which in turn helps the engine to run smoothly.

By an engine running unsmooth, we mean that the sudden coughs and bumps that you face while your car is running at speed. This often happens when there is a problem with the injection pump. The problem leads to the engine being deprived of the sufficient amount of fuel it needs to run smoothly. more
