Hmm, I had seen the photo of the second picture in my service manual and it told me to do that. more
I'm pretty sure from the assembly diagrams on mercury parts express that my engine has design 1.
I guess I will reply to my own thread.
I got the Pin pushed out far enough to get the upper swivel pin tapped out. I had to lower the motor 4/5 of the way down and tap the cross pin. I had to use different punches to get it to work. I finally had to cut a nail in half to be able to push it far enough with the original punch. The angle wasn't good enough to get a punch to do the whole thing.
Now that I have the tilt rod out of the cylinder. I am trying to get the trim rod piston off so I can put on the new o-rings. The manual says to heat up the valve with a torch lamp. I do not have a lamp. Can I use a torch to slightly heat it up to shock the piston from the rod so it will unscrew with the spanner wrench? more
First off, I am sorry, I know the rules about replying to old threads but I have searched google and iboats and have found very little information on this topic and need some help. more

Re: Trim pump reservoir replacement tips
Zackman I assume you are talking about the 2 metal screen filters on the bottom of the motor that go into the pump reservoir. Here's hoping you will see the tag and respond. Where did you purchase the filters from? The filters on mine are deteriorated and if I don't find them, I just know I am going to end up with trashed cylinders and pump and have to drop $300 on a new one. [links]
