How to transfer boat ownership in bc
See full version: Pleasure Craft License - Transfer - Buying or Selling
When you sell your pleasure craft, keep a copy of your bill of sale in case someone later questions the ownership of the vessel. Provide the new owner with a signed bill of sale. The new owner will then have to transfer the pleasure craft licence by sending an application form and the necessary documents by mail to the Pleasure Craft Licensing Centre. A pleasure craft that is the subject of a transfer of ownership may be operated until the day on which the new owner of the pleasure craft receives a transferred licence, up to a maximum of 90 days from the day of the transfer of ownership, if documents are carried on board confirming the name and address of the new owner and the date of the transfer of ownership. here

When applying for a pleasure craft licence (that you'll display on the hull, above the waterline, on both sides of the bow), include a signed photocopy of your personal identification document. We will return the photocopy to you when we send you your licence. Your application and supporting documents must be mailed-in for processing to the Pleasure Craft Licensing Centre. here

The pleasure craft license is not the same as the Pleasure craft operator card commonly known as the boating license, which is required in order to drive a power driven boat.

If you do not have documents that prove you own the pleasure craft, you will be required to make a declaration under oath stating why you cannot produce the bill of sale or proof of ownership. You can use the sample declaration form provided on the website of Transport Canada. [links]

If you’re in a situation where you do not have the documentation that proves you own your pleasure craft there are alternatives to take. You can be required by law to take a declaration sworn under oath stating the facts behind why you can not produce a proof of ownership or bill of sale. You can use a sample declaration form to help with this matter if needed. [links]

If you want to buy a used pleasure craft in Canada you might be wondering how you go about transferring the licence? You first must keep in mind that a pleasure craft licence is not the same as a pleasure craft operator card (which is more commonly referred to as a “boating license).” A boating license is required to operate a boat that is power driven. A power driven vessel is any boat that is controlled by machinery. Whereas, a pleasure craft licence is a unique identification number – commonly referred to as the “licence number” – that you must display on your recreational vessel. To transfer a boat’s pleasure craft licence into your name, you must submit the following documentations: proof of ownership of the vessel, a signed photocopy of a government issued identification card, a full side view photo of the vessel in color and a completed application for transfer of a pleasure craft license. You may submit a pleasure craft licence transfer form . [links]
If you are the person who is selling you pleasure craft to another individual the process is a little different. You will need to keep a copy of your bill of sale so that if questions arise later the ownership of the vessel can be proven. You must also provide the new owner of the vessel with a signed bill of sale. The new owner will have to then follow the steps relayed above to start the process of transferring the licence into their name.

Boat storage is largely dependent on the type and size of your boat, your location and how much you want to spend. Options include storing a boat on a trailer, dry rack storage, in-water moorage, a boat house or yacht club. more

Rack or Dry-Stack Storage: This is a service offered at many marinas around the province. Rather than investing in a marina slip, boats are stored on enclosed racks and are brought out when you want to go boating and stored away upon your return. Some things to consider with rack storage: more
