The HD quality of side imaging sonar is a feature that is available only in a couple of select models released by Humminbird, and the 998C SI is one of them. Thanks to this feature, you will get a clear view of the areas that prone to attract fishes, regardless of the area and topography of the water that you are sailing on. This technology helps you search around 240feet on each of your sides to catch fish.
Thanks to this technology, you can now find a large number of fish than before in real quick time. It will also guide you where you have to place the bait, as the screen indicates where the fishes are exactly. This way, you don’t have to place the bait and wait endlessly for the fish to arrive. Though the sonar frequency is set at 455KHz here, you can choose the frequency of 800KHz as well in this feature. You need to remember that at 800KHz, the final image may be extremely sharp, but the search area on both sides may not be 240 feet. It would be far lesser than that.

Unfortunately, living in southern Ohio, I haven't been able to use my new Humminbird 998c HD SI combo. However, I bought this device because I own an 898 and 798 units. Humminbirds are the best fishfinders on the market today. This unit will be linked with my 798 on the bow of my bass boat utilizing the trolling motor side imaging, down imaging and other sonar. I received my unit a day earlier from the store, and would have to give them a 5 star rating on service thus far. here
Item arrived quickly; had to order an extension cable for the power from hummingbird in order to mount it on the boat. Top notch quality fish finder though, especially with the side imaging. Nice big screen, and great picture quality. Highly recommend product even though it is pricy. more
I boought this product because of the larger screen, which makes a huge difference for the clarity and detail. I also own the 898 DI which is a great product but there is a big difference between the 2 units. I would spend the extra money for the 998 becasue of the clarity. here
