There are no "engine terminology police". 4-stroke and 4-cycle can and have been used interchangably for ages, as have 2-stroke and 2-cycle. And not all four-strokes require FC-W oil. My Suzuki recommends conventional 10W-40 oil that meets current API specifications. If you buy Suzuki branded oil, it is marked FC-W however. here

As was pointed out, one may be a synthetic or a synthetic blend and the other is conventional oil. Both can be used if they are branded FC-W. As for the "cycle/stroke" thing -- it is meaningless and simply infers that the dude/duddette that designed the label was not paying attention to the what the other label indicated. No big deal. Different strokes for different folks. [links]

I disagree slightly with the others, I believe "4 cycle engine" is the proper term and that "4 stroke engine" is a slang term. more

Most 4 cycle outboards call for FC-W 4 cycle oil. This is a different oil than an auto would take. Your owners manual should point out the correct oil. more

Every lawn mower needs to oiling to prevent overheating while in use. … Too much oil in the crankcase can damage the motor of the lawn mower. Too much oil can also cause the lawn mower to leak which can damage other parts of the lawn mower other than its motor.

Top Tip: You will need between 400-600ml of oil for a lawnmower engine depending on size and make. (Ride-on mower engines will normally need between 1-2 litres of oil.)

Can a Lawn Mower Start Without Oil? Even if there is no oil in your lawn mower, it will start and run. Some of the newer models may be equipped with a low oil safety switch, which will prevent the mower from starting if it has little or no oil in the oil tank.

2-stroke engines are mostly used in small equipment as weed eaters and chainsaws. They are also very popular in racing because of their ability to produce more power concerning their weight. They can run no matter what position they are in. They used to be very popular in old lawnmowers even now some people prefer them because of their high-power output. here

This question does not have a single answer. Four-stroke engines are usually bigger than two-stroke engines, so they have more power. But a two-stroke engine is more powerful than a four-stroke engine of the same size and weight. In short, two-stroke engines have a better power-to-weight ratio.

You can also see if your lawnmower exhausts a lot of gases or not. If yes, then it is 2-stroke, and if no, then it is 4-stroke. These methods are only applicable if your mower has some fuel and is running correctly. For an empty lawnmower, you will have to reside with the first method. more

The engine to be used in a lawnmower is based on customer requirements. If the customer wants more power, then a 2-stroke lawnmower is preferred, and if the customer wants more efficiency, then 4-stroke lawnmowers are preferred. 2-stroke lawnmowers used to be more popular back in the days, but now 4-stroke lawnmowers are selling more. 4- stroke lawnmowers are preferred by the audience nowadays because of their environment-friendly nature. With an increase in pollution, people prefer that the mowers they use do not contribute to it. But then again, that depends on what kind of function you require from the engine. You can buy any type, depending on your needs.

In the 4-stroke engine, however, the gasoline must remain oil-free. The 4-stroke engine has an extra oil circuit for the lubrication of the piston. In this oil bath is also the crankshaft and usually the transmission is also supplied by this oil bath. more

A 2-stroke engine has a different operation than a 4-stroke engine.

In the 2-stroke engine, the 2-stroke oil must be added to the gasoline, while the 4-stroke gas burns pure. The 4T does not require any mixing, and the lubrication oil is in the separate oil circuit. here
