Corsica is situated in the Mediterranean Sea at a latitude of 41 north and a longitude of 9 east. The island enjoys a pronounced Mediterranean climate: hot summers and only moderately cool winters. Climatic conditions vary greatly from region to region, depending upon elevation. It is, for example, very well possible to sit in the hot sunshine on the coast in April, while there is still snow in the mountains. There are about 95 days of rain in Corsica (on average), with only a small proportion of these falling between June and October. Storms occur more on the west coast and in the mountains.

Calvi
Calvi, jewel of the Balagne impresses with the variety of its beauty : an imposing Genoese citadel and a marina which is full of life at its foot, cheerful and many-coloured alleys, a high-town full of self-assurance and serenity, and finally a beach which languorously stretches along its pinewood.Between the fresness of the seaweed with their powerful scent of iodine, which caresses St Florent, the Genoese and the coasts which line the gardens of the Balagne, the blazing Desert of the Agriates streches. This piece of land covered with a burning and scented scrub, favourable to kindle the imagination which has nourished many legends which were born from its wild beauty and from the strangeness of its forms, contrasts, for more charm, with its neighbour, the fertile Balagne.

Lavezzi Islands
Lavezzi is an amazing island, the environment is enchanting and totally virgin: between the numerous figures and rocky heaps, the small tiny sand creeks compete with the big tropical beaches. Lavezzi Islands are listed in the Unesco World Heritage. There are no hotels on the Lavezzi Islands. No cafes, either. Not even a single toilet. And that's precisely why people come. Classified as a Natural Reserve by France in 1982, the islands, in the strait between Sardinia and Corsica, have been protected from development. But there hasn't been any shelter from the wind. Without buildings to break them, gusts have whipped the islands' granite into fantastic shapes.
In the coves between the rocks are protected spots of empty, sandy white beach. The clear water is teeming with anemones and fish, particularly grouper (merou in French), which explains why divers know the islands as Merouville. The winds also caused one of the Mediterranean's worst shipwrecks. On the 160-acre main island (the only one that's more than a pile of rocks), a hiking path leads to a 46-foot-tall pyramid-shaped memorial for the sinking of the Semillante in 1855. We suggest to visit Lavezzi in low season (May, June, September October), when the prices of the sailing charters are good and you can easily be the only one in its wonderful bays. Come to discover Lavezzi during your unforgettable sailing vacation among Corsica, Maddalena Archipelago and Emerald Coast.

This island has been declared a natural reserve for the particular species of seabirds living on it (royal seagull, cormorant and peregrine falcon). The island's name is linked to that of Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian patriot and fighter who lived in the XIX century and was one of the fathers of the Italian independence. He bought the island in 1855 and died there in 1882. His house is now a museum and a memorial chapel and the island itself is a national monument. [links]

History informs us that after the Roman occupation Caprera remained deserted for centuries before being inhabited by groups of shepherds. Later in 1855 the Hero of the Two worlds (Garibaldi) decided to settle there and lanted the first trees of the blooming pinevood which covers the island today. A century after Garibaldi's death the island was freed from the numerous existing military restrictions and is now completely open to the public. [links]

This is one of Italy's most enchanting beaches and it is famous for its pink sand produced by the coral shattered by the raging sea. Today, it is a highly protected island. Budelli has a nine-kilometers coastline, a surface of 1.74 km2 and is populated by wild rabbits which live principally at its highest point: Monte Budello (88 metres). The best mooring places are the almost deserted little beach of Cala d'Arena (south-eastern point) and the Spiaggia Rosa (Pink Beach). The most beautiful shores are the southern beaches of Cala Piatto and Cala Cisternone, the north-eastern beach of Cala del Cavaliere and the eastern beach of Cala Trana. A low but rich Mediterranean vegetation covers the island. The transparency of its waters and the endless supply of fish and crustaceans hiding in the countless granite ravines make it an excellent destination for underwater photography.
