Now, of course I’m speculating on this new yacht as it’s not even completed yet. But if first impressions are any indication, it could be something special. It’s named Sea Eagle II and was commissioned by a repeat Royal Huisman owner (the first Sea Eagle is 145-feet-long and was built in 2015) the shipyard to who went back to Royal Huisman, to build his ultimate dream-yacht that when it’s delivered later this year will be a contemporary three-masted schooner. more
Royal Huisman worked with Dykstra Naval Architects and designer Mark Whiteley to design and build a sailing yacht that will preform under sail. The yacht’s carbon composite Rondal Panamax rig and three masts will be installed upon once the hull is moved to Royal Huisman’s facility in Amsterdam. And the all-aluminum hull is much “lighter” than if it was built of steel hull like all the largest yachts are always built with. In fact, Sea Eagle II’s hull is the largest aluminum hull ever built. One of the features is the extensive use of titanium (“more than the average space programme,” quipped one observer in Monaco).
Sailhandling uses captive winches capable of handling 40-tonne loads and are calibrated by the automated systems that Fabio Perini originally invented and continues to innovate. more
The main dining table is a 1.7 tonne piece of marble. Below, there are six guest cabins and crew quarters forward. Philippe Briand admits that the structural engineering to support this 30m space was a challenge. [links]
Titanium has been used for fittings and features from a circular table in the exterior cockpit to deckhead details and beautifully milled handholds, stanchions and rails. Perini reportedly had to seek out specialists from the F1 world to work on these details.
The styling is the work of PH Design, a Miami-based company with which the owner has worked before on his homes and apartments. [links]
This is the company’s first experience with yacht interior design introducing a novel look and theme that has slightly Jules Verne undertones, from the deep sea windows and dog fastenings to 12 treasure chest/steamer trunks – technically, credenzas – in deep brown alligator skin. These are suspended on titanium straps each side of the saloon. [links]

The second most expensive yacht in the world, Eclipse, is owned by Roman Abramovich. The Russian billionaire has spared no expense when it comes to his superyacht. He’s installed a private defence system, including missile detection sensors, intruder alarms and armour plating and bulletproof windows in his master bedroom. On top of that, Eclipse has two helipads, two swimming pools, 24 guest bedrooms, a disco hall and a mini-submarine. [links]
