Pioneer was built in 1966-67 in Chula Vista, CA as a customized offshore yacht to meet the highest industrial and military standards of that time. The design was developed by GEORGE MOORE, a naval architect from SanDiego who spent time with the world class Kettenburg Company. The significant results from George’s design was an advanced build that focused on luxurious comfort, seaworthiness, stream lined beauty and a large hull designed extremely strong meeting operating economy while gliding through the water. She is a one-of-a-kind and built to order. Some say unusually overbuilt for the early days of long distant cruising boats and too expensive to be built in todays competitive market. It begins with a fiberglass hull that is 6″ thick, 70’ WL (73’ LOA), 20 1/2’ beam, 6 1/2’ draft, full displacement that comes in at 91 net tons/130 gross tons. Her interior configuration has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 6 people in 3 staterooms including a full-beam master suite on the lower deck aft. Her elegant choices of wood throughout the vessel, create a warm cozy living space. The mechanics of the design were chosen to perfectly match the heavy-duty hull with redundancies everywhere.

1962 Romsdal 100 Expedition The name ROMSDAL has always been synonymous with North Sea trawlers, yachts built for research, and strong North Sea fishing boats. Originally built in 1962 as a research vessel, DISCOVERY underwent a complete rebuild and refit from 1998-2000. The refit was massive and reported costs exceeded 12 million dollars. DISCOVERY is an esthetically pleasing yacht that shows outstanding workmanship and stunning craftsmanship throughout the yacht. The interior wood is exquisite and the layout is perfect for luxurious accommodations. Refit to be a gentlemans expedition yacht the hull was flared and painted with Sterling Flag Blue paint. During the refit a new rolled aluminum superstructure was built and installed using bimetal transition inserts. The superstructure is white. Teak trim was added producing the true yacht finish one would expect. The decks were covered with teak and show little wear. The interior design and layout was designed by an architect while the interior workmanship was overseen by an interior designer. The results are simply stunning. With the finest craftsmanship available, the interior has varnished mahogany wood work and trim, madronal burl woodwork and trim, granite, marble, jade, and exquisite fabrics. DISCOVERY is now available as the owner has finished cruising and is concentrating on business ventures.
