Given its top speed of 44.7 mph at 4,800 rpm, we'd have a hard time calling the Wakesetter XTi "fast" relative to other boats in its class. (It's only fair to note that we tested it on a 107-degree afternoon.) It was, however, quick and strong, and that's what really matters in a tow boat's performance. Time to plane was 2.4 seconds and the boat ran from 20 to 40 mph in 5.9 seconds. It reached 41 mph in 10 seconds. here
A remote for the JVC CD stereo system was located in the U-shape lounge area. In truth, to call the bench, which was aft of the one-person midcockpit sunpad, "U-shape" does it a slight disservice. The lounge actually looked like an oval missing its forward most arc section. To transform the lounge into a dining area, the manufacturer offered a pedestal table that mounted into the boat's carpeted sole. [links]
When it came to tracking with an aggressive boarder or skier in tow, the Malibu XTi was an immovable object. Not only could neither one of them yank it off course, but neither driver could feel them trying. more

Like the pylon, the boat's engine was secured to Malibu's Fiberglass Engine Chassis System or "FibECS" in Malibu speak. Looking under the motor box, which had three removable side panels, our inspectors could see that the engine was through-bolted to the FibECS system. Engine compartment wiring was neatly aligned and supported with cushion clamps, and the entire installation was sanitary. [links]
Also if you slow these boats down below 32 MPH the wakes will grow substantially. Below 30 they are more of a "follow the boat" type wakes for skiing and nothing you could attack on a slalom ski unless you like not touching the water from the second wake all the way to the buoy line.
There are a few ways to address it and still go for a direct drive assuming you can't fit everyone foward of the plylon (or don't want to since the bows are shallow already). here
@oldjeep I did a similar search as you a while back and skied a few boats. Here are the options in order of wake quality. here
Nautique Sport 200
Malibu 20 LSV or VTX on a diamond hull
Malibu 21 LSV on a diamond hull
Mastercraft 214V (with the adjustable "multi sport" wake plate)
Moomba Outback V (with the adjustable wake plate)
To be honest, some of the best wakes I have skied was an Alumacraft fish and ski with a 115 outboard. Light boat is your friend. Big comfy boat? Heavy. Good luck. Tell me what you find, because I want one.
I have seriously looked at the Nautique 200v or Sport Nautique 200. While is no longer sold, some of the prices are coming down.
The chin spray on some of these new boats i see on the videos is crazy for boom time. The GS20 shoots out as does the XT20.
Not really in the market for a brand new boat, I cant fathom spending $100k on a boat
I used to wakeboard, but it no longer really interest me. Wakeskating is a nice break and the new Slingshot looks alot of fun on rough days. Personally rather take a slalom run, barefoot run and then a nice cruise with friends and family. But still be able to have fun on the boom.
* Side Notes*
The people we bought it from were buying a bigger surf boat, AND a 90's slalom boat.
Their thoughts were the VTX could do it all, no complaints on the ski wake, but afternoon surf sessions turned into all the neighbor kids and adults coming along….. here
130-240) compared to the average slalom boat, and you are looking at $30,000 savings over a new one…..
No, we did not test a sport nautique or master craft, so I cannot make a comparison. After talking to a lot of people, skiing behind the VTX, and the price for a used one, we were sold. here
Im in the same boat (no pun intended).. I have 2005 SANTE and its a great family boat for the day on the lake with room for others. My kids were 4 and 5 when I got the boat and now 3 years later its not the right boat for us. I got the v drive boom and taught my kids how to ski on it and many other kids (pass the handle!) We moved to long line and they both ski on two skis behind the boat and love it.. except for the wake. Its massive even on empty tanks, no people in the boat. The wash on the tip they cant handle even at 17-19 mph. They are almost ready for more speed, but its tough. Now my youngest learned to slalom at 6 years old off the boom, then long line dropping and then deep up. (she is crazy). Im expecting more of the same this season.
I have had (2) other nautiques both direct drives and loved them dearly. But with kids and friends and all the crap we need when we head out on the water. the V-drive makes sense. Just the skiing is not optimal for the kids. For me, I can barefoot behind it, slalom is nothing to write home about, but Im not running the course. if I do the course, its behind a hydrodyne outboard or DD.
Im still looking for a 200V, hopefully with the 409.. you know. for fun. ha. I also thought about the MC 14V, but heard mixed on this boat.
Good point. If you prioritize slalom, there are new some Sport 200's left. more
