Buyers might choose a 1.20 carat diamond if they have purchased a 1 carat diamond in the past. They might choose to upgrade their diamond to increase size. Perhaps the 1.20 carat weight has a significance by number, or maybe the cost fits a specific budget for diamond colour and clarity. There are many reasons why a buyer will choose to exceed the 1 carat size. But unlike a small step to 1.10 carats, the 1.20 carat size gives a greater difference in physical size by comparison to the 1 carat diamond. [links]

The overall price per carat for either option should be very similar. However, the additional 1/5th carat increases cost based on the increase carat weight. Expect greater value for money when sourcing a 1.20 carat diamond compared to a 1.25 carat diamond. The full 1.25 carat weight will typically demand a small premium over the 1.20 carat weight owing to the increased rarity of the weight. A similar comparison can be made with smaller diamonds. Buying a 0.70 carat diamond will offer greater value for money than buying 0.75 carats. Besides the obvious weight difference, greater abundance means a lower cost compared to the fuller diamond weight. here

A typical 1 carat round brilliant cut diamond, measures between 6.3 – 6.5mm in diameter. By comparison, a 1.20 carat diamond will measure around 6.75mm in diameter. This small difference results in a noticeable difference between both diamond sizes. more

Remember, “carat weight” is a weight measurement – so in order to get max bang for your buck, always look at measurements . It may be that you can get a great value by choosing a 2.9-2.99 carat that measures just as large as a 3.00-3.10ct! So, when looking for the best 3 carat diamond ring, set your filters just a hair below 3 carats, and then compare measurements. Check it out: more

Huge emerald cut rocks are celebrity favorites! Think Elizabeth Taylor, Melania Trump, and Paris Hilton! Shining and elegant, large emerald cut diamond rings stand for high end class. That is because emerald cut diamonds require a higher color (G+) and clarity (VS1+) than other cuts to look “white and eye clean”.

Depending on where you live the average engagement ring size will vary. The 1.0 carat center stone used to be the most desired size chosen for engagement rings, however, more recently we are seeing this shift towards a slightly larger stone, with couples choosing diamonds averaging 1.25 to 1.50 carats .

Does your partner have an active lifestyle or career? For example, someone who works with their hands (like a teacher or stay at home mom) or enjoys active hobbies (like gardening or the gym) may be better suited for a smaller center stone.

Does your partner wear any other jewelry? If they do then they might prefer a larger center stone, however, if they don’t then something more understated may match their personal style better.

Let us start at the beginning: what does carat mean? Carat is the unit of measurement used to specify the weight of precious stones. Although a carat was only officially equated to a weight of 200 milligrams in 1907, the unit of measurement was used before that. After all, the word derives from 'keration'; an Ancient Greek term for the pod of the Carob tree. The Ancient Greeks grasped that this pod had a relatively constant weight and as such was ideally suited for precision measurements. Don't confuse this with gold karat, however. Gold karat indicates the clarity of the precious metal, not its weight.
