Your Old Town Canoe plastic hulled boat can be kept in better condition by covering it properly when not in use. This will help to prolong its use and resale value. Proper maintenance and care (and winterization if needed) will also help maintain the usability and value of the craft. As outboard engine life also effects the value of a boat, we have included engine information as well. more

Royalex Old Town Discovery -174. This is a faster, more stable longer version of the 169 that can accommodate more weight. The core of the hull is in excellent shape with less oil canning than the new T-Formex versions or any Royalex 169 I have seen in 15 years. For some reason the previous owner put some red paint on the red hull but that can be easily removed. They also mounted motor boat seats more

The Discovery series, especially the 169, appear to have been modeled after the Tripper, but are roto-molded or poly something. Very similar, but not with the "benefit" of the Royalex, not as forgiving in a (heaven forbid) wrap, and I don't think as durable overall. I haven't been in a Discovery, nor paddled with anyone who has for a comparison.

Here are some pics of the first canoe that I was wondering what it was. its rough and cheaper but, not looking at it anymore, more interested in the Tripper posted above. just thought I would see if anyone can tell the model or material by the pics. here

I think I will move on the tripper, I had a good ol'chat with the seller and is holding it for my while I sort out a pick up. I have wanted a tripper for years, they were/are a really popular design from what I have heard/read. here

I've paddled, rowed, and sailed a couple of these boats a lot. There are faster boats but for paddling or rowing, they are hard to surpass if you are caught out in a washing machine. I prefer my Grummans for sailing, though. Only because they are easier to modify, being made of metal. [links]

I am aware of the performance and following of the Tripper 17 and would grab it with a little work on the price but, not sure about the discovery 16.9. the canoe is a ways away so I am getting a friend in that area to check it out and would like to give him a few things to look for. only stickers on it are the "old Town" ones in the center of the canoe.

This Old Town Canoe outboard canoe has a plastic hull, is 17.33 feet long and 36 inches wide at the widest point. The boat weighs approximately 83 pounds with an empty fuel tank and without any gear or passengers.

Despite the plastic hull on this canoe, we recommend that the boat be kept dry and covered in order to preserve the value of the boat. Proper care and regular maintenance can help your craft stay nice and increase resale value. We have included some outboard engine information since a boat isn't much good without a good, reliable source of power. more
