Relatively few pirates ever seized enough treasure upon which to retire. Of those few, the fewer yet who lived long enough to leave piracy had already blown their loot on drink, women, or were swindled out of it, by the time they called it quits, and ended their days in poverty. Still, the lives of many pirates were fascinating, so following are forty things about history’s real pirates of the Caribbean. more

Pirates, especially those who plied their trade during the Golden Age of Piracy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, are often seen as romantic anti heroes. Real piracy was seldom glamorous or romantic. Pirates’ careers were typically violent, brutish, and short, their lives ended by battle, the hangman’s noose, or more often, by any of a slew of diseases and illnesses.

Seventeenth century French buccaneer Daniel Montbars (1645 – disappeared 1707), better known as Montbars the Exterminator, earned his nickname and then some. One of the most feared pirates of his era, Montbars became known as the Exterminator because of the sheer bloody mindedness and glee he displayed in killing Spaniards.

The biggest portion of this tall tale is the city, but first, you need to open the gate before you can enter it. Pull out your lantern and head up the stairs to your left, then light the brazier on the ground. This will activate the city and cause the gate to open up for you. This will begin the next leg of the tall tale called Tales of the Dead. [links]

Many people ask if they need to watch the movies in the order they were released, but it’s probably not necessary. The first movie does a good job at establishing and introducing the characters, so it might help to watch that one first; aside from that, however, each one is more of a stand-alone film and doesn’t really build much upon the previous story. That being said, if you plan to watch all five, you may as well go in order. more

This content removal apparently flew in the face of Disney representatives previously insisting that the service would be avoiding the dreaded content rotation that its rivals, like Netflix and Hulu, participate in regularly. That isn't the case here, but many fans are still frustrated over movie faves unceremoniously being yanked from the platform like they were. [links]

Recently, however, a series of titles were removed from the service that had subscribers up in arms. Movies like Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides seemingly disappeared out of nowhere. Additional titles like Dr. Dolittle and The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration were pulled down as well. more

Fortunately, all of the movies previously removed from Disney+ will be making their way back, eventually. According to Gizmodo, a Disney+ spokesperson confirmed that their removal was simply due to legacy licensing issues. Essentially, the license deals will need to expire before some of your favorite movies end up returning. As far as how long that may be, that's anyone's guess. more

In the meantime, Your best bet may be to purchase the Disney movies you love the most and want to watch over and over again, as there doesn't seem to be any sort of advance notice that customers will receive about content removal due to licensing issues. Having a hard copy is probably the best solution here, or downloading a paid version to your favorite device.
