The 2 I have are the next generation that have the 2 piece case instead of the 3 piece one. There is a bit of difference between the 2 models. [links]

Open it up again and check all the bushings. Then look over all moving parts for anything that looks like a rub mark that shouldn't be there. Could also coat parts with a contrasting color grease then reassemble it, operate it and then open again and then look at the grease for areas that are making contact. Another thing you could try is to remove the shift and throttle cable, reassemble and see if it's still acting up. [links]
Series 96 is the most current key set made and are still in use today. The ignition switch for these keys has the key number stamped in the side of the push-in barrel where the key goes into the switch. These were offered in 7 numbers: 70, 71, 72, 75, 76, 77 & 79. NOTE: #70, #71 & 72 NO LONGER AVAILABLE! more
Starting with the KF Series keys made/stamped Chicago Lock. These were found in both DASH mounted and control box ignition switches that had a silver color cylinder with the KF key number stamped into it and a silver color retaining nut and the same switch. They were used from mid 1950's until 1972 and were numbered from 1-100. NOTE:Currently we do not have key #'s KF21, KF56 &KF75- these can be ordered but will require an additional week prior to shipping. [links]
The 77 Key Series were also made by Pollak. These were used in push to choke ignition switches. These switches could be identified by a black nylon flange where the key was inserted and these also had the key number stamped into the flange but from use many of these numbers have worn away by now. These ignition keys /switches were used by many boat manufactures where the ignition switch was dash mounted or control box mounted. If you look at the one picture below you will see a key in a black boot and a loose boot. To find your key number for these you will have to pull the key out of the boot (tip- use a little rubbing alcohol to make slippery and it will pop right out). Black boot not included with keys. here
The 73 Pistol Grip Key Series came out in 1973 and were mostly used in control boxes that had a seperate choke switch from the ignition (not push to choke). These were made/stamped Pollak. The ignition switch these were used in could be identified by its white nylon flange where the key was inserted. The key number was stamped into this flange but most are worn away by now. These had a number range from 1-35. [links]

All the vintage Johnson, Evinrude and OMC outboard parts listed on these pages have been carefully removed from select outboard motors. The pictures shown are pictures of the actual part you are purchasing and all parts shown are included. Be aware that many of the Johnson and Evinrude parts as well as other OMC outboards such as Sea Bee, Gale, Bucaneer , etc. have interchangeable parts. They are guaranteed to be in good, serviceable condition and have a 30 day return policy. We have many parts that are not yet listed on this site. If you need a specific part for your outboard, ask - we may have it. here
These parts are all at our Pennsylvania location which is open from April 1st thru September 26th. [links]
You can get a comprehensive 27 page PDF manual of all OMC products from 1913 thru 1993 that includes:
The red hot exhaust travels down thru that inner tube and out the propeller with a somewhat supply of water to cool the propeller hub. A good amount of water surrounds and fills the space between the outer and inner tube, otherwise the outer housing would get so hot that the paint would burn off. [links]
Those two top holes. read on: here
Some water pumps, for some reason (********g even when new) exert a great amount of water pressure, and if the exhaust housing seals are in perfect condition, the water fills the tube to a point of overflowing. [links]
Thanks in advance for any help.
The VRO was incorporated in 1984.
