The fictional history of the Black Pearl is as tumultuous and colorful as any of the human characters in Pirates of the Caribbean's maritime lore. The ship has switched allegiances, outlived captains, been miniaturized inside a bottle, and is always a coveted bounty among the ocean's top pirates. With a mythical origin story and a reputation for unmatched speed, any pirate would be lucky to find themselves aboard the (in)famous Black Pearl, and here are the 4 captains lucky enough to tame her.
Here's every captain the Black Pearl had in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. On the seven seas, any pirate captain worth their salt should command a ship befitting of their reputation and skill. In Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movie series, there are plenty of formidable vessels, from Davy Jones' Flying Dutchman to the British Navy's HMS Endeavour. But by far the most famous ship in Pirates of the Caribbean's fleet is the Black Pearl, the boat at the very heart of the original movie.
The Crew of the Flying Dutchman are men who have given their souls to Davy Jones, in exchange for avoiding the shadowy unknown that is death. As the crewmen serve their hundred-year sentence aboard the Flying Dutchman, they begin to alter and transform into more monstrous beings; fused with the various creatures of the sea. This is due to the fact that Jones no longer ferries the dead of the sea to their final resting place as his job first entailed, and as such, the reason they are cursed along with him. Because of this, they also could not die or be killed easily until released from their years of service. However, the longer the crew stayed aboard the Dutchman in this state, the more they lost who they were until they literally became part of the ship.

On 5 February 1722, Captain Chaloner Ogle of the HMS Swallow came upon Black Bart’s vessels. The Swallow veered away to make the pirates think that the ship was just a fleeing merchant ship. One of Black Bart’s vessels, the Ranger, took the bait and followed the ship. The Swallow then open fired on the Ranger, under the captaincy of Skyrme, and captured it.
