But remember: Even with an indoor propane heater you should play safe and air your room regularly. For additional safety, you can also install a carbon monoxide alarm in your house that will notify you when there’s too much CO in the air.

Here’s what a reviewer says who tested the heater with a 20lb propane tank: [links]

A generator can never supply more than the wattage it declares. You can see that the voltage drops when the 1500 watts heating mode is activated. Most likely the heater will not work properly. more

Answer: Yes, with a little technical know-how, you can run a space heater off a car battery. But you shouldn’t! Even though it might work, you will permanently damage your car battery. Additionally, it will only keep you warm for around 3 hours until the battery is drained and it’s dangerous as well (you’re playing with high current devices).

In an emergency survival situation, you’ll try everything you can to stay warm. So, is it a practical solution to connect a space heater to your car battery? I’m an electrical engineer, and I’ll show you how it would work!

Still, the 3.6 hours are more than I initially expected. Car batteries can store huge amounts of energy because they consist of many smaller battery packs that are connected to each other. [links]

Hi, I am setting up a dc to ac power inverter for my ice fishing cabin. Last fishing season we were freezing, several friends of mine started using a power inverter with a 12 volt battery to run an electric heater. I’m interested in the 3000 watt 24 Volt Royal Power Inverter, will it power my 1500 watt heater ? Thanks Ken here

The 3000 Watt 24 Volt Royal Power inverter should be able to run a 1500 watt heater. The only thing that is important to keep in mind is if the heater is 1500 watt continuous or peak. This dc to ac power inverter will run anything with a peak watt of 3000 or less, usually when it comes to electronics that contain a heating element the listed watt is almost the peak. I do recommend checking with the manufacture or reading the manual of the heater just to make sure it is not peaking over 3000 watts. Many people when selecting their power inverter will often confused the listed wattage with the peak wattage. Remember when a power inverter has a continuous wattage listed at 3000 watts and you electronics peak and run several seconds above that wattage the power inverter will always go into alarm mode. The alarm mode is obviously a feature that is included into the inverter for the user protection, that last thing you ever want to be is overload and electronic and have all the interior components burn out. There are ways of testing peak draws by using a multi-meter and testing a the draw during use. If you have not yet purchased your heater and want to make sure the system with work flawlessly then consult the maker of the heater, the same would applied for any electronic being run with your dc to ac power inverter. Please also make sure that you set up the right size battery bank for the power inverter to run your electric heater for the period of time you require, if you intend on running the 1500 watt heater on a high level for the entire day you will need multiple 24 volt batteries. All the information posted above will also work with the 3000 watt 12 volt dc to ac power inverter as well, just make sure before using which ever power inverter the battery bank is properly aligned in parallel retaining its constant voltage at 12 or 24 volts.

Note: The wattage's given below are estimates. The actual wattage required for your appliances may differ from those listed. Check the nameplate on the appliance to determine the actual wattage required. here

To select an inverter from DonRowe.com that has enough power for your application, add the watts for items you may want to run at the same time. Use the total wattage, plus 20%, as your minimum power requirement.

* Appliances and tools with induction motors (marked * in tables) may require from 3 to 7 times the listed wattage when starting. The start-up load of the appliance or tool determines whether an inverter has the capability to power it. Be sure to check the specific wattage requirements and operating instructions for appliances / tools to be used. Also, air conditioners are a very difficult load because of the high start-up surge. Use the Locked Rotor Amps to determine the start up surge requirement.
