The U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix have relatively large airports and receive flights from Puerto Rico. Major airlines like American Airlines, Delta and United Airlines have flights departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to both island cities. The flight to St. Thomas takes about 30 minutes, while St. Croix is approximately 20 minutes away. For a more adventurous trip, try a seaplane. The carrier Cape Air provides inter-island service between San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Croix and the British Virgin Islands of Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Cape Air also has a flight from the Puerto Rican island of Vieques to St. Croix. Prices vary seasonally but usually peak in January and February when the Caribbean is flooded with U.S. sun-seekers.
