For one,Brakes are not hydraulic. And how is it that this is going from ATF to now Brake fluid? What's next will you think of?Anti-freeze.
O.k let talk about a brake caliper and a back brake wheel cylinder and how it works.First,a caliper.Takes more preasure/force to stop a 3,000 lbs car then lifting a 200 lbs if that sterndrive.Look at the distance of travel between a caliper piston and a hydraulic trim lift?A caliper only has less then a inch of travel verses a trim shaft of 6-12 inches. Then, verses how often your brake is used over your trim button kne I say more on a caliper?Wheel cylinder is made of two rubbers and a spring.Do I realy need to explain this again?Same as above.I can say the same to you as try your ATF with your calipers.Let me know your findings? As for your thinking of factory oils.Sales is what ever saves money. Also, called recalls as well.If rubber could talk.Contact your manufacturer?Ask them what will happen and why not hydraulic fluid? If you still feel the same?Start shining your tires not with your basic Armral. But,with the oils you are told to use?manufacturer knows your oils you use are no good. They also, know they will have a job next yr as well working on your seals.Take that to the bank? here

The MerCruiser power trim feature allows the operator to raise and lower the drive unit for use in and out of the water. Power trim also allows the driver to raise and lower the bow of the boat by slightly modifying the angle of propulsion. This leveling action increases speed and performance. Power trim fluid is held in a reservoir inside the power trim pump or in a separate plastic reservoir near the pump. Maintaining proper levels of fluid is necessary for the trim system to operate properly.
Place the stern drive into the "Down" or operating position using the trim controls at the driver's station.
Open the engine compartment cover and locate the hydraulic trim pump in the lower rear area of the engine compartment. The unit will have two power trim hoses connected to it. Look for an optional plastic fluid reservoir next to the pump.
According to the Merc manual, the trim system is self bleeding through a process of up and down cycles, also, there are a few more steps involved for new or empty trim rams.
For example, you will find the trim system bleeding instructions on page 5A-7 of the manual.

1. When I disconnect the cylinders from the stern drive, should it be in the full down or up position? more
4. I understand that getting the sealing nut off the rear of the cylinder with the pin type spanner can be tough. Any suggestions on how to speed this up?
2. When I want to start draining the system, which hydraulic hose should I disconnect first? more
I have two problems with the tilt/trim on my 1988 Alpha One: 1. Water in hydraulic fluid (its a milk shake) and 2. Very slow up with both tilt and trailer. From reading here on the helpful Forum I have plans to: 1. Change the seals at the ends of the cylinders and 2. Drain, flush, refill and bleed the system. So here are the questions:
