Do you have the assumed navigational knowledge to make a success of your RYA Day Skipper practical course? Take our fun Day Skipper Knowledge self test and find out! If you enroll on a RYA Day Skipper practical course it is assumed that you have navigational knowledge to Day Skipper shorebased ability.
This little test helps you gauge your current level and help you decide if you need to do the theory course. You can mark yourself in this test – the answers are at the end for you to check how well you did. It’s also well worth revising your theory knowledge prior to the course, especially if it is a little while since you took your theory course and you might be a bit rusty. more

It’s entirely up to you whether you sit one exam at a time or attempt more than one on the same day. However many students find that attempting more than one at a time is tiring and we recommend that you space them out. here

Key thing is, because it's something you want to do - it all becomes very easy and unpressured. The "exam" is very simple indeed.
If you're capable of an "O" Level GCSE or whatever it is these days you should have no trouble with the Day Skipper Theory. There's a tiny bit of maths involved but that's just sums and graphs and you'll be talked through it completely by an instructor. The rest is a little bit of parrot fashion learning, lights, buoyage, etc - I found the flip cards invaluable for both learning and staying current.

If you do one of the theory classroom courses, then your instructor will guide you through it. A decent school should give you a bit of extra help if you need it. Don't worry if you get stuck, some of it is a bit of a head full at first, but by the time you've done the course, you'll be ready for the exam. here

We also learnt that all the lines should be set up to be slipped from on board, and that the shorter end of a line is released to avoid lines fouling on the pontoon. [links]
