At 1045 the next day we were entering Mantazas Pass, and less than an hour later we picked up a mooring at Ft. Myers Beach City Marina. It was a short day, but we hadn’t had a shower in four long days, and we were ready for a rest and we also needed to do laundry and pick up some groceries. So that day we did all of those things in Ft. Myers. It is one of the very rare places where one can take his dinghy to a public dock directly adjacent to a grocery store. We only stayed that one day, but it was a very welcome and helpful stopover.
The winds were blowing freshly out of the north during our night anchored at East Cape, but we were in the lee of the cape, so it was no problem. In fact the wind was welcome as it made it impossible for any biting bugs to find us.
The winds were still NE, so moving up the west coast of Florida was fairly stress-free in terms of wind-sheltered, safe anchorages.
once on a friend's Caliber LRC47 in Nov. 2001 and then in Dec 2001 on our Hunter Legend 45. We did an overnight from Oak Harbor Marina to Big Lagoon near Pensacola. Then from there to the Clearwater Municipal Marina in Clearwater Beach, FL. Both times we motored the 25 hours to Big Lagoon. Big Lagoon is a great anchorage and there is fuel available there. We mostly sailed from Big Lagoon to Clearwater Beach. When we returned from the Caribbean spring of 2003 we returned from Clearwater Beach to Big Lagoon, but then did the ICW from there back to Slidell. We anchored near Ingram Bayou east of Mobil Bay and on the north side of Petit Bois. Then the weather turned ugly so we went to the city marina in Gulfport. From there it was a motor day back to Oak Harbor Marina.
Glenda, How long did it take to sail from Big Lagoon to Clearwater Beach, FL and what time of day did you get underway/arrive?
We left Big Lagoon around 8am and arrived at
Sunshine, white sand beaches and clear blue water provide an ideal setting for your next team building or corporate retreat in Tampa or St. Petersburg. Let the sand tickle your toes as you take a sunset walk along the miles of sandy beaches or relax along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico while watching dolphins play as you wander the shops of nearby Clearwater Beach.
Our corporate clients head for Florida to improve team effectiveness and also to enjoy the warm ocean, gentle breezes and sunny days. Team Sailing involves everyone on your team as they test the winds and use its power to race the boats all the while building team unity. The coastal harbors and bays of Tampa and St. Pete invite the voyagers in all of us to come on-board.
While setting sail through the clear waters of Tampa Bay, practice different areas of responsibility: at the helm, man a winch or handle a line. Then coach your peers on your newly-acquired skills, share risk-taking (and mistake-handling) and increase trust. Team Sailing provides a unique opportunity to practice teamwork and take part in an adventure to remember.
