The center console saltwater fishing boat category comes from the controls being mounted in or near the center of the boat with side deck space around it, and an open area throughout the boat. Center console fishing boats range in size from 11-feet to over 50-feet and are designed to operate in a wide range of sea conditions providing a safer, more comfortable ride over longer distances. Dual console offshore fishing boats have a helm console on the starboard side and a companion console on the other side. Similar to center console boats these typically come with a wide range of fishing features and range from just under 25-feet to over 30-feet. Dual console fishing boats are generally more family friendly with greater comfort features and are designed to help promote a smooth dry ride. Both boat types can come with extensive fishing accessories as well as comfort and family features making them both a great recreational boat for family and friends.
Re: Should I buy a boat that has been in salt water?
I'd be checking it over really close for saltwater damage. I've been around saltwater all my life, when I go looking for a boat, I go inland far enough to find a boat that's not been in saltwater, or at least a motor that's not seen saltwater.
Even with proper flushing and maintenance, saltwater still takes a toll on the motor. You get real good at drilling out rusty or seized bolts, replacing springs, axles, and bearings, and replacing pitted chrome and trim.
Salt will hurt my boat? Never heard of it. Didn't see anything in the manual. [links]
You'd think that the salt would totally eat them up after a year or two, but it's simply not the case.
