Mary asked: I’ve had linens, bed linens and towels in the airing cupboard and now find that where they were folded, are large, brown burn marks. I can boil wash the white towels, but not the coloreds. Is there any way to remove these marks? Thank you for your help. [links]

It may not be possible to remove all burn marks from clothing, depending on what type of fabric is scorched, how old the stain is, and how dark or severe the marks are. Scorch marks in wool, for example, actually burn and shorten the fibers. Dark or brightly colored fabrics are harder to restore than lighter ones, while burn marks aren’t likely to come out of silk at all. In most scenarios, this method will improve the look of the burned clothing but don’t forget to spot test before you begin.

There's nothing better than that crisp, warm, "just-ironed-shirt" feeling. On the other hand, there's nothing worse than the sudden feeling you get when you realize you've left the iron on your clothes while you answered the door! Luckily, if you know how to treat scorch marks, you don't have to worry just yet! It isn't always possible to remedy scorch marks, but for light burns (especially on fabrics like cotton and linen), there's a surprising amount you can do.

Thanks everyone. I pulled things apart last night, and found that the squirrel cage blower had almost enough fur to make a squirrel . It was still drying ok, but not at optimal.
I ran a load of towels through it, and did see that the burner was cycling on and off.
Mrs. bh357 did comment that she notices the scorch marks maybee once a month, if that. Come to think of it, she has been dropping a few hints on one of these things.
Dryer fires are not the most pleasant.

2 years ago mine caught fire. The tub stopped turning and the clothes caught fire. Just so happens I was repainting the laundry room so I was right there. Called for fire dept. They carried it outside and stamped the clothes into the snow. Dryer was ruined, every peice of red clothing I own was ruined, but house survived. Had to repaint the laundry room, but was already starting that project. here

Thanks for the insight guys. The vent and lint screen have both been cleaned recently; vent about 3 months ago, screen before each load. I will check the passageways inside the dryer tonight.
The burner is cycling off and on.
The scorch marks only occur once in a great while. more

Before you read on, it’s important to remember that some scorch marks on clothes may be unsalvageable. With a scorch mark, you’ve essentially burnt the fabric, so (unfortunately) this type of stain can be permanent. However, for light scorch marks (especially those on cottons or linens) there is hope.

Pop the garment in the washing machine. After you’ve pre-treated the item, place it in the washing machine with a high quality laundry detergent. Switch the machine to the appropriate cycle and temperature, as recommended on the garment care label. If you have pre-soaked your item with a bleach and water solution and are washing other items at the same time, then make sure they are bleach-safe too. here

If the damage is permanent, it doesn’t mean you have to throw the item away. You could recycle the fabric into something new – perhaps a hair band or a belt – or you could try and fix the mark with some nifty sewing tricks (like covering it with a colourful patch).

Dry in the sun. Once your wash cycle is finished, check if the scorch mark is less visible and hang the item out to dry in the sun. The sun’s natural brightening abilities may help to lighten the mark even more. Alternatively, you can try repeating the pre-treating and washing steps above for optimum results. [links]
