Another video captures what seems to be a third sea lion swimming close to the boat, also trying to board. While the third sea lion never made it aboard, the vessel was already doomed. Phillips later confirmed that the boat had slipped "completely underwater."

On average, male Steller sea lions weigh a whopping 1,200 pounds, while females average in at around 580 pounds. We're not completely certain about the weight of the boat or the sea lions, or if there was any pre-existing damage to the small boat.
"As we got closer, we noticed it was not sinking but instead there were two very large Steller sea lions on board," Phillips told Popular Mechanics . Although he says the sea lions appeared calm, the boat seemed to be struggling against the mammals' immense weight, which can range anywhere from 580 to 1,200 lbs.
They’re just watching the world go by. From their faces, you can imagine them thinking, “What are these people looking at?” [links]

The size of the boat compared to their bodies makes it look like a toy a child would play with in the bathtub. Hopefully, there wasn’t anyone in the cabin. If there was, I have a feeling they were praying to come out of this adventure alive. [links]

It’s a wonder the boat didn’t sink. These sea lions stayed on the boat for quite some time. I’m not sure how, but it didn’t sink. These mammals can reach 11 feet in length and up to 2,500 pounds.

Sea lions are huge marine mammals that seem to have a lot of personality. They love playing games with each other and hanging out with other members of their species. And sometimes, they get in a bit of trouble.
Rather than seeing a boat driven by other people, Phillips saw something completely unexpected. Sailing along as if they didn’t have a care in the world were two huge sea lions. As Phillips explained:

How do they do it? They raise a flipper above the water's surface. They're then able to absorb warmth from the sunlight via exposed blood vessels in the flipper, which eventually circulates throughout the body. more

A man was on a boat in San Diego holding a fish when a sea lion leaped out of the water, over the boat's railing and grabbed the food. The man was pulled underwater, and was treated for his injuries.
Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. Years ago, I was at a party with friends when their dog leaped up and ate the hamburger off my plate in a single gulp. Something like that happened to a man in a fishing boat in San Diego. He was holding a fish, and a sea lion leaped out of the water over the railing of the boat heading for the food. The man was pulled underwater. He was later treated for his injuries, but there was no recovering his fish. It's MORNING EDITION. more
