Wander to the site map on this site, and check out “duty cycle” to give you some ideas so that you don’t burn out your compressor. [links]

Andrew, if this were my set up, I would not put a tank rated for 150 PSI in series with an air source at 250 PSI, regardless of putting a regulator in line.

Note: It’s important to understand that adding a second air tank to your compressor increases the CFM of the compressed air system and NOT the air compressor pump CFM. The actual CFM available at the outlet of the air tank is separate from the air compressor pump CFM.

Sure. DeWalt does it, as does a number of compressor manufacturers as they try to get more volume capacity into a small compressor footprint. here

You can now push the coupler from your extension air hose onto this connect, effectively connecting the two air tanks together.

put the two tanks side by side and fill here

You will also need a gauge to determine your pressure, and a high pressure rated hose to connect to the output. Optionally, you can also install an air drier to keep water and oil out of the air coming from the hose, and you must also have a pressure cut off switch or pressure relief valve to prevent over-pressurization and a possible explosion. Refrigeration compressors are not ideal however, especially if you need large volumes of air or a high CFM. Since I will not be operating air tools with this, that doesn't matter. Refrigeration compressor pumps are designed to pump a continuous loop of refrigerant and an oil lubricant in a sealed system, and since we will be using this compressor for something it is not designed to do, don't expect it to last forever. We can periodically add oil to the inlet to keep the pump lubricated, but keep in mind this will result in a compressed air stream with a fine oil mist. It is extremely fine however, so if you are not doing something stupidly sensitive, it shouldn't matter.

Next take your piece of 10" steel U-channel and put the air compressor motor at the back of the tank and electric motor the front on this U-channel making sure that there will be enough tension on the drive belt. Mark the position of the mounting hole on both. Drill out these holes. Now put in the nuts and bolts you will be using to mount these two motors. Turn the U-channel upside down and weld the nuts to the under side. Once these are welded, remove the bolts. Place the U-channel on the top of the tank, opposite the legs. Make sure this is level and weld the U-channel to the tank. At the back of the tank you will have to drill out a hole big enough to fit the seat of the one way air valve. You know have to weld the valve seat to the tank making sure you have a complete seal on the weld. [links]

Well, if you didn’t select the Sitemap link to get here, then you’ve arrived because the page you clicked on has been amalgamated or undergone substantial modification during the complete site rebuild in early 2019. Though the information you want is still on this site the page name may have changed due to that page-condensing process.
