A boat jack plate enables your outboard to provide optimum performance in shallow water. Essentially, jack plates lift your motor higher out of the water. By raising the motor, jack plates provide less drag on the boat and lower unit and direct the motor’s thrust parallel to the water. This generates more energy to propel the boat forward so boaters can run, start, and stop in shallow water.
The prop pitch is also a factor in determining which jack plate is right for your outboard. Once you install a jack plate, you will change how the boat rides and handles. You can alter the pitch and diameter to maximize its effectiveness based on boat load, speed, and water conditions. The jack plate will simultaneously get more of the motor out of the water and more of the hull out of the water which provides less drag, thereby allowing you to run faster and get on plane quicker. here
There are 2 different types of jack plates, manually adjustable and electric/hydraulic adjustable. If you fish with the same setup every time- then a manual adjustable jack plate will likely meet your needs. If you fish with a variety of gear and set ups, then you may prefer a hydraulic adjustable jack, which enables boaters to make quick changes on the fly. Your best best is to invest in a hydraulic jack plate for your craft.
