To restore the peak performance of the fuel system, install new filters. Over time, filters accumulate dirt and debris, minimizing their functionality. Additionally, if you do not change the filters, they will restrict flow, resulting in inefficiency and performance problems. [links]

Put a bucket or container under the hose to catch the fuel after draining. Do not just let it flow on the surface as it is a safety and environmental hazard. Proper disposal is a must. Do not throw it on the water or ground as it is toxic and can also start a fire. more

This step is the most important. Different cleaning materials are available depending on the extent of cleaning you need to do. The longer the tank has not been cleaned, the more dirt you will find in the tank. more

A good way to clean the tank is to use a pressure washer. Choose the lowest pressure setting. You might need a special nozzle that will clean the tanks effectively, especially when it is deep. here

If you have to siphon it, Run some 1/4" tubing through the bilge drain to the fuel tank. Remove the fuel line from the tank and put the 1/4" tubing in through there. You can also remove the sender and go through there with larger diameter tubing to drain the tank faster.

If you can get to the top of the tank, remove the gas gauge sender plate (about 4" in diameter, 5 screws). Hopefully the boat is on a trailer?

But as stated before, it is safe to use old gas as there’s a time limit to that. Generally, observations show that old gas, which is not more than 90 days old, is safe. In other words, one can expect gas to be safe to use for up to 90 days. more

Leaving gas in the boat can be dangerous. Luckily, there’s a specific time limit to which leaving gas in a boat is safe. Since it’s a flammable item, it becomes a significant responsibility of the owner to take extreme care of it.

Step 5: Stop forcing air into the hose. Once the fuel is flowing, no more pressure is needed. The fuel will continue to flow unless the hose is kinked, or the tube is removed from the fuel tank. [links]

Step 1: Prepare to siphon the gas. Get a fuel-safe container to pump the gas into and remove the gas cap of the vehicle.

In this method, two lengths of flexible rubber tubing are used to siphon gas into a fuel-safe container. A gas can works well as a fuel-safe container because it can be closed and won’t allow the fuel vapors to escape. more
