To fix this, you will need to take the carb off the bike (or at the very least rotate it in place by 90 degrees to give yourself access to the float bowl screws. Remove the float bowl and take a look at the gasket between in the float bowl and the carb body. This will generally be a rectangular-ish gasket roughly the size of a business card. here
Fortunately, it is usually very easy to fix a dirt bike leaking gas! Generally it is just a bad seal or gasket that is causing the leak. These are cheap and easy to replace after you find where the leak is originating.
Fixing it is pretty easy and involves taking the carb off your dirt bike, removing the float bowl (typically held in by 4 screws), and either cleaning or replacing the valve. Another quick trick is to try tapping on the carb bowl with the handle of a screwdriver to see if that knocks whatever is preventing the valve from closing loose. more
Replacing the fuel line is a quick, cheap, and easy fix. Just take the old line off and go to your local automotive store and ask them to cut you a new piece of the same inner diameter and length of the fuel line that you just removed. You only need low pressure fuel line for carbureted bikes which is about 5 times cheaper than high pressure line. The last time I had to do this, I think it cost me a total of 2 dollars including tax.
Of note is that on some carbs, the drain screw doesn’t exist but rather has a large bolt head in its place. This is for easy swapping of the jets. The same principal applies, these bolt heads are going to have a gasket that might be leaking. [links]

I’ve had great difficulty downloading a manual for a dt40 04005 - 410028. Suzuki website stops loading and boats.net doesn’t seem to have that model listed. here
I have a 1 year old DT40hp Engine and is already giving me a hard start problem. It takes more than 10 pulls to finally get the engine up and running. Also engine cuts off when slow down completely and when shifting gear forward, neutral or backwards. What has caused these to happen?
Well-used Dt40 starts first turn of key. Compression 125 & 125. Just had it serviced including looking at Fuel lines & carb cleaned, new fuel pump diaphram
Runs well up to 3500rpm forever, no overheating etc, but as soon as we wind it over 4000rpm in 20 seconds it splutters and stalls. re-prime the bulb and it starts straight away and will run happily - up to 3500rpm . We thought the fuel pump was faulty & so replaced it. Any ideas, please?
Running out of fuel isin't good for the cylinders or bearings.
The gas/oil lubes the moving parts.
You run it out of lube,bad things can happen.
My neighbors 200 had a problem with the oil system.
No lube got to the system and he didn't heed the warnings.
Now he needs a powerhead. [links]

So everything was looking good. I was test-riding it after a short hiatus, and the moped was running fine. Near the end of my ride, I stopped at an intersection to make a left turn. I revved the engine while still stationary in anticipation of the light turning green -- I didn't want to hold up traffic, and the 50cc engine takes a while to get going. I pushed off from standstill, the scooter started moving fine, but soon thereafter started lagging. It absolutely refused to go past 20 MPH even though I'd usually go 27-28 on the same stretch of road. It was consistently going slower afterwards, and I scurried back home as best as I could.
This morning I fired it up the usual way, hoping to analyze how it runs. It hit 29 MPH on flat land like nobody's business and I rode it around for a good half hour with no problems. I have no idea what changed in the last couple of weeks -- perhaps it had some time to think about its problems and resolved them.
