Any time you’re installing electric switches, it’s fairly easy to reduce a hole in the drywall that is too big. Luckily, there are extra-large plates available at hardware stores that you can use to cover your switches. here
They are typically in measurements up to 3/4 inch wider and longer than regular switch plates. The majority of people won’t be able to tell the difference, unless they’re professional electricians or fellow DIYers. here
When it comes to smaller tanks that don’t have a lot of distance to move, you will find the metal rod style. Think of portable fuel tanks.

Why is my boat fuel gauge not working? There are five items that will cause a boat fuel gauge to not work. The fuel gauge itself, the power to the gauge, the fuel sender, the ground to the system, or the fuel sending wire. These systems will need to be tested individually to fix the gauge. more
Ok, this is something your dealer should have explained to you thoroughly.
Also, is it possible to reset the total fuel used and not just the trip and seasonal? I have 2 tanks, so the main fuel level bar is constantly taking into consideration the total fuel capacity of 250 gallons, which i rarely carry, unless i am running offshore. i usually operate on 1 tank 70% of the time. I noticed it does reset itself when i set the fuel level to full, bit not when i add gas.
As fuel is used, the system then calculates fuel used and subtracts that from the tank capacity to give you fuel remaining. It can be displayed as a figure (recommended) or on a gauge/bar graph. here
There are several different gauges, some are analogue, some digital.
Digital gauges
These can be set up to show fuel level 2 different ways -
Analogue gauges
The analogue gauges work from electric tank senders and cant be calibrated, if not reading right there is usually a problem with the sending unit on the tank or wiring to the gauge. here
