it is extremely dangerous to rev any outboard engine beyond idle speed in gear when it is out of water and running on the earmuffs. You should not do it! Apart from the danger to any people nearby of a prop spinning at under power at big revs, there is no load on the engine and you risk causing engine damage if you rev hard and then back off. It is simply not a sensible, or necessary, thing to do. more

Josh, you have said you are new to boating, so from someone who has owned and run boats for more than 30 years, here is some good advice. I also own a Suzuki DF 115 myself so i can speak with certainty about that model.

If however you are actually revving the engine hard, in gear, while running on the muffs, and the engine starts missing and farting at 3000rpm, then most likely it is hitting the rev limiter. I have never done this myself for reasons as per the first paragraph above. Bloody dangerous! more

I would suggest that you put the boat in the water, and complete the testing there. Far safer. here

If you are on a personal connection, like at home, you can run an anti-virus scan on your device to make sure it is not infected with malware. [links]

Our DT75 did somewhat the same thing however it was the water sensor. The composite float would last one season. The next when warm to hot the float would sink even with excellent water flow. Suzuki had no answer but to sell a new sensor. After two of them the correct wire unplugged solved it. eventually plugged the wire back in and removed the composite lever and keep a watch on the tell tail. Hope you get the DT115 solved. here

So what I've tried:
I have tried to plug out the oil-level sensor because in the manual it looks like i can do that to prevent it from put the engine in "rev-limit mode". But there was no difference.
I have cleaned the oil filter/sensor who sits right before the oil-pump, but it looks like this only goes to the monitor to switch on the oil lamp, if problems.
Because I connected the two wires togheter and the oil lamp came on.. So, since the oil lamp is dark when I still have rev limit problems, I don't think this sensor is the problem.
So to the water-flow sensor.. read out of the manual, this switch will cut connection when the water flow is ok, and connect when there's not water pressure.
So there should just be to unplug it and it can't cause rev-limit?
Did that. no difference, still 3000 limit..
Have tried to unplug the throttle-position sensor, cause i read on another forum that this could mess up rpm.. no difference.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here?
I don't know what to do next !

What was different was that my motor runs as usual if you idle and switch it off for about 5 seconds. Than it will go as usual over the 3000rpm. Until there is another wave. [links]

* Cooling water sensor again. I disconnected the sensor and connected a cable between the black, coming from ground and violet/white going to CDI.
What was interesting was that I didn't get an alarm while running. No buzzer and no water light on the gauge. On the other hand is this unit not directly connected to the gauge but directly to CDI only.
Hope I get this right: the sensor shouldn't cause any alarms but measure the coolig water temperature for the CDI by resistance. here

I am not sure how that Suzuki limits RPM or what would cause it,
but you might check to see if the timing is changing or there is loss of spark on a cylinder when problem occurs just to narrow things down some.
If timing and spark are good then you may need to be looking at a fuel issue [links]
