Swing back seats are normally wide enough for two people. They provide your boat with additional storage inside the seat base. The storage space in a swing back seat is often designed to be used as a cooler or live well. Smaller cooler seats are also available. These seats allow your cooler to also be used as a seat when space on-board is limited.

Boat cooler seats come in a wide variety of styles to match different boat types. Swingback cooler boat seats and bench seats often have a built-in cooler. This saves space on your boat, eliminating the need to fit extra coolers onboard. Coolers with seat cushions are also available. This gives you the option of a removable seat for anywhere on the boat. more

I considered using it as storage but its a small 17' and when the seas get rough and I have someone drive its way too much of a pain to go in and out of it getting things, plus the lack of room for another cooler. [links]

So far I think I am going to go the "make a drain plug" route. The only problem is that I would like a removable cooler so if there are "guts" in there I dont want to just drain into the boat straight back to the bilge.

It is a cooler (insulated seat and sides) and considering the rounded layout I assume maybe even used for a live well but makes no sense that there is no drain. I did double check to make sure I wasn't going crazy and there is no patched hole from a previous drain.

How old is the boat? You are right and it may have been designed to be a second livewell. OR, it is a "you choose" area, designed for either. (In So. Florida, an insulated livewell is not a bad idea) I remember a long time ago, that boat mfgrs. went through a (thankfully) relatively brief period when they did not plumb livewells, due to liability issues in the past. Looking back I now realize that this was probably the first time that the responsible boating community had to pay for the idiocy of a few others.

The classic fridge design, top freezer-style models have been around for decades. They have a main chiller section for fresh food and a smaller freezer compartment above it. If you need a lot of room to store frozen items this style of refrigerator isn't ideal. They're also pretty basic appliances and lack extras such as in-door water dispensers and automatic ice makers. The upside is they tend to be more affordable and more compact than other fridge styles.

Not surprisingly, there are many pitfalls to avoid. On the list are things to consider before you step into the store, or click that buy button. One is choosing the wrong style and finish for your home's decor. Another is not thinking about capacity and your food storage needs. And sweating the details is important, too. Cantankerous interior drawers are never fun to live with. Are there compartments for cold cuts, cheese, dairy? Perhaps you don't care, but at least check before you commit.
