The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean in the world based on surface area, which amounts to about 161.76 million square kilometers. The Pacific Ocean is divided into the North and South Pacific waters which cover about 77 and 84.8 million square kilometers in surface area, respectively.

The Pacific Ocean extends from the Arctic Ocean to the Southern Ocean. Not only is it the largest ocean in the world based on surface area, it is also the largest based on water volume. Unfortunately, over the past several decades, Earth’s oceans have faced dangerous threats from climate change. Both land and ocean surface temperatures have increased since 1980, and have been warmer than usual. The increased use of fossil fuel has caused changes in the pH of surface waters and has led to acidification. However, rising temperatures have not been the only thing that has threatened the Earth’s oceans. Trash that has found its way into the ocean have also damaged these ecosystems. Waste such as single-use grocery bags, water bottles, straws, among other types of single-use plastic that is properly disposed of can end up in the ocean. The consequences of not recycling means that marine life is affected as marine animals get entangled or even swallow these materials. The most common type of microplastics found in the ocean originates from synthetic textiles. here

Also known as the Antarctic Ocean or the Austral Ocean, the Southern Ocean has been defined relatively recently, in 2000, and consists of the waters around Antarctica. It is the fourth-largest ocean in the world. This ocean zone is where cold, northward flowing waters from the Antarctic mix with warmer sub-antarctic waters. (Image courtesy: Phys.org) [links]

The world’s biggest water bodies, the oceans, are a mark of international pride and are sometimes also called Earth’s lifelines, since they provide sea-lanes for international trade, apart from providing products like seafood as well as marine life itself for aquariums, pets.

This reputation was not strictly built on the size of the actual wave as it is not the biggest or heaviest wave in the world. However, Pipe’s magic resides in its hollowness and barrel-riding potential.

When the ocean lights up and mean storms form hundreds of miles off the coast sending ferocious vibrations towards every continent’s shore line, many surf spots turn into an absolute close out mess…

The ocean is home to some of the largest animals in the world, including to the largest animal of all time, the blue whale, which is even bigger than the largest sauropod dinosaurs. The ocean is home to these gigantic creatures because of its abundance of nutrient-rich food that is absent on land. Another reason behind the enormous size of marine creatures is that the buoyancy of the water supports the immense weight of these animals.

Also known as the Japanese spider crab, the giant spider crab is one of the largest crab species in the world. The crab exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males being considerably larger than females. Adult giant spider crabs can attain a weight of 42 pounds, making the crab the second heaviest arthropod behind the American lobster. However, the most distinctive feature of the giant spider crab is its extremely long legs, with the crab having the longest leg span of any arthropod in the world, with adult crabs having an 18-foot leg span.
