Selling your Boat: It’s important to notify SCDNR in writing within 30 days if you have sold your boat. Not only is it required by law but it provides notification to SCDNR and your county that you no longer own the boat. This will prevent you from receiving any future property tax notices. more

Tax Questions: The change to annual registrations may change the look of your yearly tax notice from your county of residence. Counties will begin issuing the new, prospective, tax notices for boats registered within the county beginning in 2020. Individual counties will determine and implement changes to their tax collection processes as directed by the new law. Please note that questions about a boat owners’ individual tax bills MUST be directed to that county’s Auditor or Treasurer’s Office. SCDNR Boating Office assistants will NOT be able to assist owners with questions about their individual tax bills/notices.

Current Owners: The expiration month on the vessel’s current decal will continue to be the month that property taxes are due on that boat. For example, if the boat registration expires in June, then both property taxes and annual registration fees for the coming year will be due in June. (Again, current three-year registrations will be valid until the year of their expiration).

316L stainless steel letters are mirror-polished and PVD-coated in a hard champagne-gold plating, to give a subtle light-gold hue. The anti-corrosive properties and mirrored effect of the stainless steel are preserved beneath the finish. [links]

Simple lines with minimal surface protrusion. A popular style synonymous with the marine and superyacht industry. An ideal choice for smaller production boats around 70ft-80ft where swim platform space is minimal and letters are of a smaller scale.

Knowing a few simple rules will help you stay safe on the water. Since there are so many different types of boats, boating activities and styles of boating, it is important to know what to expect when you come upon another vessel and what your obligations are. The term "vessel" includes anything that floats on the water that is used, or is capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. Therefore practically everything you encounter on the water is considered a vessel and as such, must know, understand and abide by the Navigation Rules. The Navigation Rules cover steering rules akin to rules of the road, sound signaling equipment and requirements, and a section on navigation lights.

Starboard aids are red in color, evenly numbered, and will be on your right side as you travel upstream. Buoy numbers increase as you head upstream, and may have a red light. Starboard-side Buoys have an above-water appearance like that of a cylinder topped with a cone, pointed end up. The cone may come to a point or be slightly rounded and are commonly referred to as "NUN" buoys. Starboard-side Beacons have triangular marks attached to them, with two shades of color and a reflective border.

The responsibilities of a boat operator are many. Basic knowledge is just that. You should strive to know all the requirements expected of boaters, including what to do when you encounter commercial vessels, vessels engages in fishing and diving and law enforcement personnel. At an absolute minimum, you should always have a proper lookout, operate at a safe speed and yield or give-way to another vessel when in doubt and to always avoid a collision, even if that means breaking a Navigation Rule to save lives and property damage.

The Canal de Briare was built during the reign of Henri IV. The spectacular locks at Rogny are no longer in use but well worth visiting. You sail through the wooded Puisaye region, dotted with lakes. To the North of the town of Briare, the Canal du Loing will lead you to the centre of Montargis, where the canal follows waterside streets lined with half-timbered houses. You then travel towards Nemours, its waters well stocked with fish, then Ferrières, ChâteauLandon and Moret-sur-Loing, which brings you into the heart of the Gâtinais region. Travelling south from Briare, you cross the Loire over the remarkable Briare canal bridge, the work of Gustave Eiffel. The Canal Latéral à la Loire will then take you towards Sancerre and Apremont-sur-Allier, with its fine gardens.
