I'd consider a new long block 454 magnum, but I got 2 kids in college, etc. here

Here is all the fuel and ignition components taken off and the valve covers removed.

I have done valve jobs on straight 6 and straight 4's, but not a V8. Of course that was 25-30 years ago, so I'll have to do some brushing up. here

When you re-install the exhaust manifolds, make a couple of studs out of bolts with the heads cut off or use threaded rod (or borrow mine). Use them to keep the gaskets in place and to hang the manifolds until you can get a couple of bolts in place. more

Right now, I'm waiting for some oil to soak into the intake manifold gasket, so that it can be easily removed. then it is onto the exhaust manifold bolts, which will be a bit tough due to the heat exposure over the years.

I would say it should move between 160 and 170 if the thermostat is functioning properly and the impeller is pumping water as designed. here

175F while under load, but as soon as you come down to idle it will go down to 150F. Is this normal?

So you're within the error margin of the gauge I would day. here

The exhaust manifolds were drained where the hoses connect to the bottom of each. The manifolds drained well. that was well sketched in the book. I made sure that they were filled to the top with antifreeze via using the top off of the thermostat to fill them. more

As for the outdrive, it is always stored down with the boat on the trailer in the garage. I keep the bow of the boat tilted up about 15 degrees, so any water trapped inside will drain. With this boat if the bow is down anything in the bilge runs into the cabin, which is not cool since the cabin has carpet in it. Sort of a stupid design. The bucket usually ends up with a gallon or so of water. more

Tuesday we spent the afternoon on the water, putting a total of five running hours on the boat. Other than the elusive oil leak there were no additional issues. The boat is a sport cuddy with a rear bench seat and a sunpad, so there is a lot of stuff to remove, but it is very straightforward, so it was not too difficult to take everything out. Once the seat was out of the way, the engine pretty much sits in the middle of the floor.

If the guys over on Offshoreonly.com use MMO, then it is probably a good thing to use. here
