The SPDT Toggle switch can be considered as a Two-Way Light Switch as it has three terminals and works very similar to the two-way light switch.
From the schematic, you can easily visualize how the wiring works. In the default state shown in the above image, the light is off. If either of the switches is toggled, the light turns on. To turn off the light, you can toggle any switch. more
This method is recommended as both the line and neutral wires come from the same lighting circuit (or breaker) even though it uses more wire. here
Toggle switches are among the most basic and most common of all electronic components, the switch moves contacts that either provide a path for current to flow through or moves those contacts in such a way that the path is cut. The toggle switches most people will be familiar with are light switches. You can learn more in our complete guide to toggle switches. more
How Does a Toggle Switch Function?
Toggle switches may vary a bit in function from one to the next depending upon their configurations. However, the basics are the same.
When the actuator (the toggle itself) is moved, the armature in the switch moves the contact into position either energizing the circuit or de-energizing it. Once the switch is moved from one position to the other, it typically stays that way. There are also momentary switches, which energize or de-energize a circuit for as long as they are actuated and then go back to their normal state once the actuator is released. This is accomplished via a spring mechanism that exerts a force on the armature from the inside.
Now as for the ground wire. It is very important to connect the ground wire to the switch as well. The Green screw on the 2-way switch is for the ground so all ground wires should be connected as seen below.

Now in the diagram above, The power source is coming in from the left. Notice the black wire is the only wire that we are controlling through the 2-way switch. You have an incoming hot wire (black) going to one screw (it does not matter if you use the brass or silver screw) on the side of the 2-way switch and a black wire from the other screw on the 2-way switch going to the load (light, ceiling fan etc..). The white wires are wire nutted together so they can continue the circuit.

When wiring a 2-way switch circuit, all we want to do is to control the black wire (hot wire) to turn on and off the load. This simple diagram below will give you a better understanding of what this circuit is accomplishing. here
Now by understanding the diagram above, go up to the top diagram and by using the concept shown here, just use your mouse pointer on that diagram and follow the flow from black wire (hot wire) to the load and return through the white wire (neutral). This should give you a good basic understanding how the 2-way switch circuit works and will help you in adding or changing a 2-way switch.
How to wire a 2 way switch. Wiring a 2-way switch is about as simple as it gets when it comes to basic house wiring. First of all we need to go over a little terminology so you know exactly what is being discussed.
