Having said that, you can appreciate the difficulty of trying to explain what is causing your mouth bump without examining the actual bump. more

Some people will describe blisters, others lumps, and others still will just want answers on why they have a sore tongue. A few people may query about swollen taste buds, inflamed or with tongue pain and that is not even the half of it on tongue problems that involve lumps, painful or otherwise appearing here.

A single white dot or spot in the middle of the tongue is thought to indicate gastrointestinal disorders. A couple of spots of them here and other parts on the inside of the mouth could also be a sign of irritation due to the nicotine habit. here

The area covered by offending bumps also varies from person to person. They may appear on tongue and lips or back of throat only in some cases for example.

I know this is kind of long-winded, but posts like this helped me when I was starting out as a complete towing newb with my SS. Hope it helps somebody. [links]

Your final tip and step above in "putting the retaining pin through the hole" is invaluable since this is a "must-do safety measure" that will ensure that the hood coupler will remain in place and will never come off during travel, unless of course a catastrophic accident/life altering event suddenly occurs that creates forces well beyond the coupler's rated ability.

Also when I hitch up, my final step is put that jockey wheel retaining Pin through the holes on the hood assembly. If I cannot get the pin through, I know the hood is not fully seated in the down and correct towing position and I do not pass go. [links]

Why vaseline? It doesn't stain clothing like oil.

This video might help others who are frustrated and having difficulty getting the hitch hood to come up and off the ball. more

Re: Help, my trailer popped right off my reciever ball!! here

Most trailers have an adjustment nut under the tongue coupler, and i've seen too many trailers that are in desperate need of adjustment.

It might SEEM like it is tight, but check the nut under the coupler, it probably isn't.

I usually have the truck just a little forward when hooking up, that way the hitch actually moves slightly forward when it drops on the ball and the ball is pulled forward into the hitch when I latch. I have had the hitch not go all the way down if the ball was too far back, doesn't take much, the latch part in back will not slide down below the ball, I usually reach under and check to be sure it has dropped properly. As long as I have the ball slightly forward I have never had a problem with the latch not dropping properly.

Right on thanx fellas! Last night I hooked it up to the rig, and latched it all up. Then I cranked up the wheel jack and it lifted my truck up as far as I could get it. Even jumped on the back bumper a little bit and it didn't come off. I tightened the coupler a little bit, didn't make much of a difference. So as long as it didn't pop off when I raised it, it should be ok right?

Thanks to all. After taking it apart and greasing everything and installing the bolt properly the thing works like a charm.

I have a Loadright Trailer with surge brakes. recently I'm having trouble getting the hitch (Brake Actuator) to come off the ball. It takes 5 - 6 trys, backing up, moving forward, jacking, un-jacking, jacking . Finally the last two times I was able to get it off. [links]

I would check for any burrs or sharp edges that might be causing the hang up. Although if you jack the trailer high enough the truck weight will eventually overcome any burrs. here

No. The latch makes the opening smaller than the ball when it is shut. The grease cuts down on the rust and friction. Congratulations. I too know the frustration of sticking couplers. That is one reason that I have gone to Bulldog Hammerblow couplers when I can and use loop and pintle hitches on all of my heavy equipment. [links]

I didn't grease it yet because I wasn't sure about putting grease on the latch and ball. Wont that make it slip off the ball? more

Once off the ball get some PB Blaster or simular penatrating spray oil and spray up thru the ball socket at the underside of the latch.
Then work the latch a few dozen times or more to make sure the parts inside that go up against the ball are dropping away everytime you run the latch lever. more
