G&L Transportation was started in 2012, by two young carpenters, Grant Albury and Lyle Sawyer, that were also softball teammates and friends, looking to purchase a boat to defray travel expenses for work by supplementing the vessel as a workers ferry service to Man-O-War Cay. Within a few short months the opportunity arose to purchase a larger ferry from a long standing ferry that was also servicing Man-O-War Cay to which they jumped on almost immediately. The duo purchased, re-powered and refurbished the boat to provide a more suitable means of transportation for the passengers, and that began their road to entrepreneurship. Although they didn't have direct experience in the ferry business, both men grew up "on the water" around boats and operating them from an early age. It was soon apparent that there would be a need for another vessel, to provide reliable service through breakdowns and routine service requirements. In 2015 the second boat, a lobster fishing vessel was purchased from a friend in Key West, Florida. The following year, while the refurbishing was underway and near completion they were contacted by the Ministry of Education and was asked to consider bidding on the bussing contract to transport students from three islands, Hope Town, Man-O-War Cay, and Guana Cay. more

A valid passport and health visa is required by the Bahamian Government for entry into the Bahamas, and a valid passport is required by the U.S. Government for travel from the Bahamas to the United States. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most airlines require passengers to wear masks on all flights; please check with your individual airlines for further information or possible requirements for boarding.
