There may an alternative by removing the suspension fork from the C drive, and installing the 280 suspension fork in it's place.

If so, that would allow you to use the C transmission and the C Duo Prop lower gear unit on your existing 280 transom shield. [links]

When/If looking on E-bay for a good C or later transom shield, use caution. many sellers do not know what they are selling.

I went to a well-recommended marine shop and showed him my 290 and pictures of the 280.
I'm surprised that he did not mention that it is not a 290.

It is important to use genuine anodes on a Volvo 280DP Sterndrive. Volvo Penta anodes and made to exact specifications to protect the Sterndrive from corrosion. We have seen evidence of counterfeit anodes and this can lead to a total loss of the Sterndrive from corrosion.
