Replace bellows with OEM Volvo Part # 3841481- I have heard to use the OEM Bellows versus the aftermarket ones, just what I've heard? [links]
I also ordered and replaced the Seal that is in front of the gimble bearing, but it is a MOFO to get out just to let you know.

Ordered all parts here on iboats.com very fast shipping. more
Also replace the oblong water intake seal 3852560 when you pull off your drive.
You will need a 3 jaw puller to get the bearing out and an Alignment tool as well to make sure you line up the engine with the Gimble bearing once installed. If you search in the Sticky's in the Volvo penta area it shows you the specs for both tools.
This pump is of very high quality and it was as described and my expectations were met and I got it sooner then expected had it put on my engine and it's working great . I will most definitely be doing more business with these people [links]
The parts were delivered from Bulgaria to Ontario Canada in less than a week. Amazing service. A bit pricey but worth it. [links]

My Volvo Penta MD2020D needed its corroded exhaust elbow replaced. Searched for it and this one was most reasonable priced. The metrics of connections and holes on this new part are on spot, while it even seems a more heavy and more robust cast than the original one. Very nice! more
Service, expƩdition outre mer ,construction inpƩcaple !. Merci.
My gimbal bearing blew on my 2003 Stingray, where it was making audible noise when turning. I pulled the lower and the bearing was barely together. I purchased a bearing puller and it came out quite easily. But it had obvious signs there were other issues. There was lower unit grease in there meaning that the seal on the lower where the shaft is connected was blown. I have also ordered new seals for that.
Next is where I am asking for some help. After a bunch of research, I discovered that my transom seal is part number 3852548. I did as much cleaning as I could around the seal and PbBlastered the crap out of it. I saw some videos where people used a 3 claw puller to remove it and for them it seamed very easy but after looking at all this dirt, I know it is going to be a struggle. I am attaching a pic of what it currently looks like inside. I still have some more cleaning to do and I need to replace the bellows. more
I would love to remove the bellow right now but I can not loosen the transom bolts to pull the outer covering. The bolts are sitting in PbBlaster as well.
My plan is to remove the gimbal bearing. I still need to find the correct tool for this. I also understand that I need a tool to install the new gimbal bearing and seal. I found these on another thread through Boatfix.com. Correct tools? here
I recently purchased a boat with the Volvo Penta SX drive. It recently developed a grumbling sound from the drive that only occured around 2500rpm, and was accentuated in a full turn to starboard. After doing some research I determined it must be a bellows issue with damage to the u joints and gimbal bearing. I removed the drive only to find the u joints appeared fine. The gimbal bearing appears fine from the front, and it turns flawlessly. However, the splines of the drive shaft are rusty between the bearing and the engine. There appears to be no water in the bellows, and not a single rust spot on the u joints or the shaft up to the bearing.

Could water have entered in from the back? I know that alot of water sits in the bilge, and simply forgetting to flip the switch for auto-bilge could have filled it with water. The previous owner had two additional gas tanks on the rear decks totaling 36 gallons. There is also a four-stroke 20hp outboard kicker hanging off the back. When I bought the boat it sat noticably low in the rear. The extra fuel has now been removed.
I have already ordered the alignment tool needed to put the drive back on. I plan to replace the gimbal bearing and u joint bellows. This is a follow up thread from a previous one that I posted. I feel as though I have encountered a new problem, and a different thread was in order. Thank you to all who have helped me thus far. I would love to get this issue taken care of on my own, not only for financial reasons, but also peace of mind while im bobbing around in the middle of the pacific in a 19ft boat!
