David MacNeil is also an auto racer, car collector, and the sponsor of the Laguna Seca racetrack. In 2019 he purchased the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO number 4153 GT for $70 million. He also owns an $80 million yacht and donated $6 million to the University of Wisconsin's School of Veterinary Medicine for a commercial that aired during Super Bowl LIV in 2020. David MacNeil’s success story really began in 1989, when he re-mortgaged his house for $50,000 to start a business importing automotive floor mats from the UK to the USA. While working as vice president of US sales for AMG he had previously noticed that the quality of mats fitted to luxury vehicles was poor, and while on holiday in the UK he spotted that the quality of certain UK-made mats was much higher.
His company WeatherTech, a producer of vehicle accessories, is now main sponsor of the Laguna Seca circuit in California, as well as the IMSA SportsCar series. MacNeil himself is an experienced sports car racer and car collector. He also owns the WeatherTech Racing team, which will compete in the year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.
David was born in the United States on 29 March 1959. He spent his childhood growing up in several parts of the country while attending various educational institutions. He graduated from Dominican University where he earned his bachelor’s degree, and later on, an honorary doctorate.
Apart from establishing the WeatherTech company, David MacNeil also raced for many years. He even competed in the 12 Hours of Sebring, but in the early 2000s, he took a break to focus on flying.
