Do Boston Whalers hold their value? Boston Whaler boats depreciate with age, but the slope of this curve is not too steep. The greatest depreciation occurs within the first few years, then decreases after that. In some cases, the used boat may even rise in value above its original sales price.

It is nearly impossible to sink a Boston Whaler, even with water intrusion. However, boats with water that entered the hull are heavier, causing reduced performance, and can suffer from fiberglass delamination.

Modern Whaler advertising uses a chain saw. Due to the foam core construction, the Whaler will remain afloat when sawed completely in half. Boston Whaler boats also remain afloat when completely swamped (full of water). Because of these attributes, Boston Whaler’s trademarked sales line is “the unsinkable legend.”

The 2018 170 Montauk is an instant winner that stands true to its heritage as a safe, unsinkable little boat that loves the full range of Chesapeake-appropriate assignments. List prices range from $34,000 to $45,000 with trailer, depending on power and other options.

Well, for what it is worth: A quick look at the Boston Whaler website reveals that all the boat line EXCEPT for the Sport/Montauk lines list the cockpit as self-bailing.

I have never come across the actual published weight of the Nauset in any Boston Whaler paperwork.

Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon. If 10 gallons was in the foam I think that would be a lot; but it would only be 80 pounds in weight. There are lots of other things on a completely rigged boat, on the trailer, that can add up to 80 pounds. I don't think any weight you get will be of much use.

On other models of that era, the RPS was always an option. That means the boat could be a Nauset or an Eastport which had the RPS installed as optional equipment. [links]
