Quantum of Solace is the title of a story published in For Your Eyes Only in which James Bond plays a very small part. Bond is attending a dinner party hosted by the Governor for The Bahamas at the end of a week in Nassau before leaving for Miami, in which he feels completely out of place. Once the other guests have left, Bond and the Governor and make small talk to pass the hour or so before Bond feels he can also depart. When he makes a remark about wanting to marry an air hostess, the Governor proceeds to tell a story that he says Bond may find interesting. more
Quantum of Solace's problems were a mixture of events outside of the production's control and changes in the franchise's direction that didn't quite come off as intended. Here's why the Casino Royale sequel is often considered the "difficult second album" of Daniel Craig's 007 career.
The backbone of Quantum of Solace's lackluster reception isn't entirely the film's own fault. Production had the misfortune of coinciding directly with the 2007 Writers Guild strike and while an initial script had just about been completed, Forster was unable to make any subsequent changes or rewrites, at least not using actual writers. Quantum of Solace was forced to commence filming with a script that was both inflexible and unpolished, and that backstage chaos tells in the finished product. Daniel Craig has previously admitted the absence of professional writers left himself and Forster reworking the story in-between takes - a predicament he acknowledges was far from ideal. Interestingly, the actor also admits that before being Frankenstein-ed on the fly, Quantum of Solace was much less of a direct sequel to Casino Royale. The direct continuation between those two films ruffled feathers when Quantum of Solace hit theaters, and it seems the writers strike was responsible for this controversial direction.
What went wrong with James Bond's Quantum of Solace? As introductions to a new Bond go, Daniel Craig's debut in Casino Royale had pretty much everything. 007 was on shaky ground after the tone-deaf disappointment of Die Another Day and Craig's arrival marked a welcome change in direction - a darker Bond, a modern aesthetic and a more grounded story. Financially and critically, Bond was back better than ever, the wheels of his Aston Martin screeching into the new millennium, and fans couldn't wait to see where Craig's story went next.
Quantum of Solace is the twenty-second film in the James Bond series produced by EON Productions. The sequel's storyline was created by producer Michael G. Wilson while 2006's Casino Royale was shooting. Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade returned as writers. The film was directed by Marc Forster, and features Daniel Craig in his second performance as James Bond. The film released on October 31, 2008 in the United Kingdom and on November 14, 2008 in the United States.

Bond meets Camille again at a fund-raiser being held by Greene, and they leave hastily together, but are pulled over by the Bolivian police. The police order Bond to open the luggage compartment of his vehicle, revealing a bloodied Mathis. As Bond lifts Mathis out of the vehicle, the policemen open fire and fatally wound Mathis, who dies in Bond's arms. After Bond subdues the police and deposits Mathis' body in a waste container, Bond and Camille drive to Greene's intended land acquisition and survey the area in a Douglas DC-3 plane. They are intercepted and shot down by an Aermacchi SF.260 fighter and a Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter. They escape from the crippled plane by parachuting, landing in a sinkhole. While escaping the cave, Bond and Camille discover Quantum is blockading Bolivia's supply of fresh water, normally flowing in subterranean rivers, by damming it. here

A plot of an unnecessarily complex development that fails miserably in something that its predecessor did very well: offer characters that seduce us. [Full Review in Spanish]
Quantum of Solace has style, and enough pursuit and pyrotechnics to please hard-core Bond fans. But it may disappoint those hoping for Marc Forster's distinctive imprint and a return to Casino Royale's top form.[links]
We won’t be able to verify your ticket today, but it’s great to know for the future.
Although it's not the most crushing disappointment of all time -- finding you have won the lottery but lost the ticket is probably more crushing, I imagine -- it is still a crushing disappointment.here
