The private jet is the fastest mode of transport. These luxurious planes allow you to move in no time in the most absolute comfort. There are many business jets, but which one is the fastest in the world?
Weather has a significant impact on the speed of a private jet. The speed indicated on the onboard airspeed indicator is never the true speed at which the private jet is flying. Taken from the aircraft’s exterior probes, this speed does not take into account the mass of air within which the aircraft flies and wind speeds. These weather factors can change the speed of an airplane completely. [links]
In February 2020, a Boeing 747-200 of the British airline British Airways flew from London to New York in just 4:56 hours, compared to 6:55 hours usually. Storm Ciara raged over the Atlantic that day, and westerly winds of over 400 km/h brought the Boeing to an exceptional speed of 1,100 km/h. This extreme example shows how weather can speed up or slow down a private jet in flight.
Whilst the model itself will set you back $65 million, the Gulfstream G650 has recently become available for private charter. It’s not cheap; a return London to Dubai excursion hovers around the $150,000 mark, but if you’re in a hurry and money is no object there’s simply no finer option.
All private jets have an attractive interior but Bombardier’s showcase private jet is particularly noteworthy. Starting with the state-of-the-art cockpit to what Bombardier has labeled the “largest and longest seated compartment of any true business jet”, the aircraft epitomizes what the private aviation industry stands for. Enlarged windows add natural light and increase the view by 40% compared to regular aircraft whilst the centerpiece must be the private stateroom which features a private lavatory and shower. [links]
The Falcon 7X considers itself the benchmark for modern business jets, and who are we to argue? The ruthless efficiency behind the design of the Falcon 7X derives from its military history, incorporating fighter jet technology into a business jet to capitalize on over three decades of aviation expertise. here
As you’d expect from the fastest private jet on the market there is a reputed name behind the manufacturing side. Two Rolls Royce turbofan engines power the beast and, combined with the intrepid wing design, provide the aircraft with its 617 mph capabilities. From the manufacturing process to the on-board controls, stunning interiors and record speed, the Cessna Citation X has it all. here
Several things have to be understood to make sense of all this mess. Business jets, just as other aircraft, have several “top speeds” depending on the mode of operation.
10. Bombardier Challenger 600 series: 890 kmh / 553 mph
Business jets are the crème of the crop of civilian aviation, providing exclusive speed and luxury for those who can afford it. But just as those flying them, bizjets are not created equal: some of them are faster than others.
Cessna Citation X+ (Mach 0.935)
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest jet aircraft in the world, reaching speeds of Mach 3.3–that’s more than 3,500 kph (2,100 mph) and almost four times as fast as the average cruising speed of a commercial airliner. Key elements of the SR-71’s design made this possible.
Though no longer in production, the Citation X+ is hugely sought after on the secondhand market and is on record as the world’s fastest private jet. The FAA certified the Citation X in 1996 and pegged its maximum speed at Mach 0.935, or 717 miles per hour.
