This is a very good product. We purchased the highest end product. It looks like a woven grass cloth wallpaper and does not allow water to seep through the backing. Turns out this vinyl is highly slip resistant even during periods of rain. We removed everything from the plywood deck leaving only the wires When we pulled off the existing carpet, the process tore numerous voids in the top layer of the existing marine plywood. I used a random orbit sander with 60 grit paper to grind out any traces of the old carpet but left glue streaks, just no carpet backing. I filled the voids in the plywood with a putty knife using the interior/exterior version of the wood filler from Lowes and Home Depot. It comes in a pink color and dries light yellow in less than an hour. I re sanded all the filler spots and blew the decking dry. We used a 1/8" v notch spreader and glued down half the vinyl, starting from the middle. Drill holes to pull the wires through carefully and cauterize the holes with a cigarette lighter so the fabric doesn't unravel. I used an 18" roller I purchased from Lowes for $30 to roll across the vinyl and get rid of the air bubbles that form when you lay down the vinyl on fresh adhesive. This tool was a life saver. I let the new vinyl sit overnight and reinstalled all the seats and hardware. I had two small bubbles (very small). I used a hypodermic needle and a small amount of adhesive to pierce the bubble and inject adhesive underneath. I pushed the bubble down until all the air came out the hypodermic needle hole and the bubble went away. My new marine vinyl is beautiful. People have commented that the boat looks brand new even though it is twelve years old. This is a very good product. Marine Vinyl is easy to talk to over the phone and ships practically overnight. I could not be more pleased.
We usually make a good profit on the material and charge for the contact cement, which is heat resistant and waterproof.

I cut out and label each piece before I start. This way I know I have enough carpet. Begin with laying the largest pieces of carpet first, then work all the deck areas. When spraying the glue with a simple spray gun, spray the glue past the inside corners where you have to install another piece next to it. This will save you from having to mask off the new carpet. I use a straight piece of cardboard to keep the glue off all areas that won’t be carpeted. Glue can be brushed with disposable brushes into hard-to-get-to areas. Mineral spirits will remove overspray on carpet. [links]
The amount of carpet needed will usually be twice the length of the boat. So we need 36 feet for this boat. The total amount is calculated different ways by stores and suppliers, some using square feet, some square yards and even running yards. Most of our suppliers go by running yard. Because we need 8-foot wide material, the total will be 288 square feet or 32 square yards or 10 yards by the running yard. more
The idea is to keep the carpet all running the same direction, which ensures that the nap is always going the same way. If you take a piece and lay it sideways it will appear a different color or shade. [links]

Once you remove the carpet, use a scraping tool to get rid of any residues on the surface. If you will leave the floor bare, chances are, there will be lots of visible marks that can be a headache to eliminate. Mineral spirits will help in the removal of the carpet. Avoid those with harsh ingredients as they can damage the floor. [links]
It is not enough that you lay the carpet down on the top of the floor. You need a strong adhesive so that the carpet will stay in place. Otherwise, it will move when someone walks. The right glue creates a strong bond depending on the backing of the carpet and material of the floor. It does not disintegrate even if it gets wet.

I like that this glue is freeze-thaw stable. Once the temperature gets extremely low, the adhesive can freeze. Nonetheless, it remains stable after thawing the glue. If possible, you should keep it somewhere it will not freeze to maintain its adhesive power.
