In May 2002 Yamaha launched the world's first low-emission PWC featuring a 4-stroke engine: the FX-140. The FX-140 was followed by 4-stroke updates of not only the WaveRunner (Marine Jet), but also the entire PWC range; 5 years later, in 2009, domestic runabout models all featured 4-stroke engines.

In the final years, the drawstring neck and waistline along with a hemline that dropped a few inches below the knee loosened up dresses even more. The look was light, airy, and romantic without a hint of masculine tailoring. This is where the 70s boho dress fashion revival started.

The wrap dress designed by Diane von Furstenberg was a cotton jersey dress with a ballerina wrap top. While it took a few years to reach star status, the wrap dress, without buttons or zippers, became part of every woman’s wardrobe in the very late ’70s and well into the ’80s. It looked good on everybody and was packable, light, and comfortable. It was natural to wear it as a bedroom robe, yet so soft, and pretty women had to show them off in public. In 1975 Furstenberg was making 15,000 wrap dresses a week for everyone from wealthy housewives to working professionals! It wasn’t until 1978 or 1979 that they were being reproduced on the mass market. here

Caftan dresses (or kaftan dresses) were the answer to every imperfect woman’s need for comfort. Made of printed cotton gauze, polyester prints, or smooth silk, they could be worn to the pool, a party, or dinner — but never to work or school. Many came in ethnic prints, large flowers, or vibrant psychedelic hand-painted motifs. Sophisticated caftans were Gracian inspired and worn with high heeled sandals and beads or pearls. The caftan became a frequent style of hostess dress, especially in Hollywood, worn for in-home entertaining. Many singers also wore them as part of their on-stage persona. here

Other brands followed Halston’s evening designs, incorporating halter necks, glittering fabrics, and floating chiffons into formal gowns. [links]

There is also a way to diagnose a suspected engine managment or fuel injection related problem in the 4-TEC's. To check and see if there is a message displayed by the "vehicle information center", you can check for fault codes, which will be the letter "P" followed by 4 digits like P1234, by doing the following.
Directions: With the safety lanyard on the post, press the "SET" button 5 times to start the display of P-codes. Press the "MODE" button to scroll codes if there are more than one present till you get to the word "END". When you see the "end" word on the display, press "MODE" to exit this function. You can write down any "P" codes that you get and if your nice, ask the mechanic at your local Seadoo dealer as to the meaning of the code, their not described in the shop manual. Or you can try and find/buy a "Vehicle Communication Kit" that is used by mechanics to check the recorded faults by the ECU, ECM and the MPEM. [links]

As you can see, the 5 button advanced test is basically there to trouble shoot the DESS in the event you have trouble starting your ski/boat. [links]

My local dealer has run the diagnostics and the engine log. The operating temperatures were all normal. They dont have a clue what is wrong.

I have gone over some of the issues at hand if a PWC (4-TEC) has been turned upside down. This 4-cycle engine with it's closed loop cooling system and the flow of liquids to the internals of this engine can have a definite impact on the ECU and ECM sensors if it is rolled over with the engine running (for either seconds or minutes. I don't know). Is something wrong with the engine? Probably not. There is probably a sensor that is normally hot and dry when the engine is running and when it went upside down, it may have gone from hot and dry to cooler and wet. The thermal shock to the sensor could have knocked it out of serivce, or it's sending out a bad signal.

In the mid-1990s, SeaDoo began to manufacture jet skis with the DESS Key Security System. The DESS Key Security system, or Digitally Encoded Security System, is a lanyard containing a computer chip with a unique numeric code that the owner connects to the dess post on their jet ski in order to be granted access to start and operate it. In other words, it works just like your car’s key fob, allowing you to enter your car, or jet ski in this case, so you can start the engine and drive it. Like your car’s key fob, the DESS key (lanyard) will only work on your jet ski and no one else’s. here

We get a lot of questions here at Jet Ski Plus about SeaDoo’s DESS Key Security System. Many of our customers want to know what DESS stands for, while others want to know how they can get a new DESS key programmed or why SeaDoo even made DESS keys at all. Here’s what SeaDoo jet ski owners ought to know about its DESS Key Security System. [links]

Why did SeaDoo decide to manufacture jet skis with the DESS Key Security System? Because before the mid-1990s, anybody could hop on any jet ski and take it, no DESS key required. So, SeaDoo decided to distinguish themselves in the marketplace with this added security feature.
