Athens evolved from what was originally a mass of small villages which have merged together over the centuries. Most of those villages have lost their original characteristics and are indistinct from each other. The neighborhood known as Plaka hasn’t. here
But, believe it. The photos often don’t do justice to the reality which makes it almost impossible to choose just which are the best places to visit in Greece. The list would be endless. Add in the extra elements of incredible Mediterranean cuisine and friendly, hospitable people, and once you’re there, you may even find you never want to leave.
Explore further and you’ll find Anafiotika, another part of Plaka. The locality, with its blue-doored white houses and stepped streets decorated with flower pots, will have you imagining you’ve been teleported from the city to one of the quieter, less-developed islands. [links]
In Plaka, there are cobbled streets lined with cafes and restaurants with colorfully furnished terraces. Narrow pedestrianized alleys where traditional Ouzerias and the local bakery are flanked by eclectic souvenir shops. You’ll come across lively venues like Bretto’s which has been operating since the early twentieth century. Once the site of a distillery, it’s now a bar with walls decorated with bottles. here
Think of Athens, the capital city of Greece, and the first thing which comes to mind will probably be some of its famous monuments like the Acropolis or the Parthenon. Those aside, the city has a distinct character which is unique from other European capitals. [links]
Zakyhthos and Mykonos aren’t hailed as two of the leading destinations in their respective corners of Greece for nothing. There’s an overload of hotels in both places, with oodles for all manner of travelers… more
Mykonos is generally known for drawing a monied cohort of A-listers and celebrities. That inevitably adds a touch class and style to the nightlife offering but also cranks up the prices. So, you’ll probably pay extra for the luxury of a night out here. However, that means you will get to enjoy the chic eateries of Little Venice and uber-cool venues like the 180º Sunset Bar. There are also places that channel the Ibiza vibe, like the Super Paradise Beach Club, offering day drinking that turns into cocktail lounging and then late-night DJ sessions with some of the top names in Euro EDM. here
Winner: Draw – families will probably prefer Zakynthos. Younger travelers and couples are sure to love Mykonos.
Zakynthos catches the eye with its jaw-dropping Shipwreck Beach. Basically, you have to take a boat trip or hike there if you’re coming to this island for the first time. There’s nothing quite like it, with those clear blue waters and the rusting shell of an old boat smack dab in the middle. On the other side of the island, get ready to encounter rare leatherback sea turtles in the protected National Marine Park of Zakynthos. Meanwhile, there’s oodles of watersports at Banana Beach for the kids, along with family restaurants with traditional Ionian cooking at Kalamaki.
Once you’re done with sightseeing or sunbathing along the Aegean coast it’s time to hit the streets and soak up the best of Greece’s nightlife. No matter what Greek island you choose to visit, there are a number of vibrant bars and clubs to experience.
I have to admit that Greece certainly exceeding all our expectations and it’s probably why it’s still our all-time favourite travel destination of all!

OK…Here’s the thing… other than the partying…I didn’t find Ibiza to be as beautiful as Mykonos….or have as much to offer like great restaurants and fantastic culture. more

Let’s talk a little about Ibiza first…
