While many people assume pocket watches are only for formal wear, we are seeing more and more stylish gentlemen working them into a more casual look. A pocket watch is a great addition to a smart casual look, bringing an instant touch of class. So, how can you style a pocket watch informally? [links]

If your suit is not three-piece (i.e does not include a waistcoat), there are still a number of ways you can attach your pocket watch. A pocket watch chain can be attached through your suit jackets buttonhole, leaving the watch free to be slipped into your jacket pocket. Otherwise, a belt loop chain will allow you to attach your pocket watch to your trouser belt loop, with the watch safely stored in your trouser pocket. here

One of the most classic ways to wear a pocket watch for a special occasion such as a wedding is attached to a waistcoat. This look is traditional and ever-stylish, making it a great choice for a formal look. This is also perfect for when you don’t want to wear a full three-piece suit, for example, if you’re attending a summer wedding. here

To wear a wedding pocket watch with a waistcoat, you need one of the chains detailed above - a T-bar chain or a bolt ring chain works best. One end of this chain attaches to your pocket watch, and the other through your waistcoat buttonhole. The watch can then be placed into your waistcoat (or jacket) pocket, leaving the decorative chain on show. here

One of the most common questions we receive from customers is asking different ways to wear a pocket watch. Whilst features may have been added or designs may have tweaked slightly over the past century, the way to wear a pocket watch has remained the same for hundreds of years.

Surprisingly enough, the variety of rear pocket options on pants exceeds even the possibilities of the front. You may have no pockets at all, one pocket or two, buttons or no buttons, flaps or simple welts–quite a bit of choice for something with minimal usefulness. Sure, you can put something in those rear pockets, but nothing much if you plan to do any comfortable sitting. As with most clothing design features, simpler means more formal, so dress pants would normally just have plain jetted rear pockets, perhaps with buttons. Once flaps enter the picture, the trouser becomes more casual. Rear patch pockets (again, think jeans) are especially casual.

Patch pockets are common on sport coats like this one from Pini Parma.

The patch pocket is in a sense the most “primitive” as its construction is also the most basic: a patch made of the same material as the jacket itself is simply stitched onto the surface. It is the least hidden of the pocket types, as it, as well as the contents it contains, rests above the garment surface; in this way, it has something in common with early external pouches. The patch pocket is seen as casual because its construction is highly visible, so it appears primarily on sport coats. If it appears on a suit, the suit is immediately rendered casual rather than appropriate for business wear; on the other hand, you could also likely split the suit and wear the top as an odd jacket.

Yes, a male can wear a pocket watch as a necklace. You can choose different sorts of chains and fobs. Otherwise, you can settle for a necklace chain. You can also try to add the pocket watch with a ribbon. If you don’t wear vests or suits or you wear pants that have no pockets, go for the necklace pocket watch!

You might love two-piece of the suit. Here, you have to take your pocket watch and place the chain through the buttonhole of the jacket. Now, you have to put the pocket clock inside the interior pocket of your jacket. This must be placed on the same side!

The classic men’s watch is the pocket watch; wearing one is a matter of distinction, especially if the watch is older. Why not distinguish yourself from the colleagues by fashioning admirable pocket watch. How to wear a pocket watch, however, is a matter of practice and preparation. more

Ideally, you should wear a pocket watches with a vest. The vest usually has a place to connect the watch’s chain, allowing the pocket to rest in the pants pocket. If you don’t wear a vest, then there are some options (such the watch in the back pocket and the fob in the front pocket, or the watch in a front pocket and the chain along the belt towards the front). Make sure that the pants aren’t too tight, as the watch should come easily when pulled, not yanked. Also, wear the chain opposite your natural handedness; you should be able to write and check the time at the same time (the customary side to wear the pocket watch is on the left as most people are right-handed). here

Keep in mind that different metals are used in making them, but gold and silver are best (for soft metals, they take the punishment rather well, especially considering that other metals tarnish and rust under the punishment). Brass also works, but needs to be polished frequently. Style-wise, silver is the best option; hopefully it’s confused with nickel by would-be robbers, and works with almost anything (gold has some limitations when it comes to colors it works with).
