Very few people buy outboard motors, which means that the demand is relatively low than other engine types. The low demand automatically increases the prices of these outboard motors drastically. Any product’s cost tends to fall or rise on the graph based on the correlation of its demand and supply.

If sold with other motors as standard, it would be challenging for the outboard motor manufacturers to claim their monopoly. [links]

Even though an ordinary motor might work perfectly fine initially, it’ll be a significant headache shortly. Regular maintenance, substantial repair costs, and finally replacing it with a new one will hurt your pocket more severely.

Some of the differences between an inboard and outboard motors can cause you to wonder which one is best. While the horsepower can be the same, an inboard motor will be lighter than an outboard, meaning the boat will be quicker. An outboard motor, however, is easier to work on in case there is a problem or maintenance is needed.

If you live in New Hampshire and keep a boat and trailer there, you may have to register both. You'll need the boat registration application, proof of ownership and the proper fee to register a boat with the Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, while trailer registration is largely a matter for your city clerk.

All motor-operated boats operated on public waters in New Hampshire must be registered with the state's Division of Motor Vehicles. This includes any boat with an inboard or outboard motor, excluding sailboats under 12 feet. Boats owned by the U.S. government and those just passing through are exempt.

Expect to pay a registration fee. The fee depends on the length, age and type of boat. Check both RSA 270-E:5 Vessel Registration Fees, and RSA 72-A:3 Boat Fees to figure out the fee for your boat. Or, you can call the DMV and ask about boat registration fees. more

That’s one perspective behind the priciness of a boat motor (outboard). Another main reason they (outboards) are expensive is that only fewer motors will sellout, not many (since they last long under good maintenance 10-20 years so that the buyer won’t swap often). To stay in business, they need to make more profit, so prices are more.
