Every glasswork is created in the shadow of Ludwig Moser. His technique was brilliantly ahead of his time and his vision forever changed the art of glassmaking. Moser crystal found its way onto the tables and into the interiors of uncounted families all around the world. Those who acquired it in the past 160 years established the style of the era. They set the tone. They expected excellence. That’s a commitment we can’t compromise on.

We believe in Mozarts of their craft, artists so singular they define an era. But we also believe in tenacity, which led generations of glassmakers to take the right path to their goals, even though that was the most difficult option. Shaping hard, lead-free crystal is difficult. To insist on crafting things by hand is strenuous, but it’s also the only way to keep every single one of our products an inimitable original. It’s the only way that allows us to sign them with the Moser logo without hesitation. Only this way can we continue on our journey. [links]

The Swarovski company was founded in 1895 in Austria by Daniel Swarovski and partners. This was years after Daniel started his first business in jewelry (“A. Kosman, Daniel Swarovski & Co”), married his partner’s sister (Marie Weis) with whom he had three sons, and registers a patent for a machine that can cut crystal to perfection. All these events contributed to the future success of the Swarovski company.

When it comes to verifying a real crystal from this elegant company, there are a handful of tricks you can use. These crystals are completely unique in color, shine, and shape from their renowned glass-cutting technique. Most notably, an authentic crystal will bear facets that seem to point up, and meet at a center point. If they do not, it simply isn’t Swarovski.

As it turns out, lead helps maximize the refraction in the crystals. Colors are created using chemical coatings, but clear crystals are actually more difficult to produce since they cannot contain any impurities.

Founder Ludwig Moser (1833 to 1916) started with a small store, where he focused on the art of glass engraving. Only a short time later, in 1893, he founded the Moser Crystal Glass Factory in the Bohemian spa town Karlovy Vary – where it still stands today.

Some companies (such as Swarovski and Waterford) still use real lead which is why their crystal is so expensive. Historically lead glass decanters were used by the rich to store wines such as port and sherry. here
