I was at a stop light and tried to drive and my 2000 Ford Taurus would not move. It has not shown any signs of the transmission slipping in the past. It has had 2 engines and an ac compressor which was covered under warranty. The warranty is up and no one can give any advice. I have heard this is an ongoing problem with the Ford Taurus. more
Was proceding across intersection, starting up slight grade when I lost forward motion of vehicle. I accelerated engine and the engine revoluntions increased. I put transmission in park, then back into drive and same thing happened. The car would not move forward. I then place transmission in reverse and the car moved backward as it is supposed to. No problem in reverse. Again, I attemped to place transmission in drive, then 2nd, then low range and could not get any forward. Movement. Took vehicle to transmission specialist (after dicsussing issue with dealer). The transmission specialist said he got into the car the next morning and car ran fine. He took for test drive and car ran fine. He inspected the transmission and could find nothing wrong. He replaced fluid and changed filter. The car ran okey for several days, then on 3/16/00, my wife was driving the car and reported the transmission slipping. Especially when stopped at traffic light. When she would procede forward, the transmission would slip, then jerk then ultimately continue in a somewhat normal fashion. I called dealer, took vehicle to dealer for inspection. The stated the fluid was burned and the transmission would have to be replaced. The dealer indicated he wmay go $1,000 of the estimated $2,100 repair for a rebuild transmission. I reported transmission problems to Ford moor CO. Customer assistance center. Likewise, they indicated that Ford may pay a portion for the repair. The Ford representative indicate he would forward a report to his regional and district office and that a report would be sent to the dealer. It was indicated that the dealer should receive a formal report from Ford motor CO. Within two working days and that I would then be notified as to what the final status of the repair cost would be.
I was returning home from a gas station and came down the steep hill to my house and when I went to back into my parking space the transmission completely failed . I thought my tires were just spinning due to some ice . When I put the car in drive to try to find another space I discovered the only gears I had were park and neutral. The car then coasted to the middle of the intersection and stopped, I then had to get my neighbor to help push the car around the corner and into a parking spot. There was no warning at all the transmission never slipped and there were no indicator lights . Nothing at all just total failure. I'm just glad it didn't happen with my family in the car along the highway on our way to cub scouts. more
Huge issue with transmission. Bucking, transmission slipping. Should not be happening so early in a vehicle. Ford recommends transmission service at 150k, why am I having a problem?.

My 1998 ford taurus had a 6 cyl engine which seemed invibcible same w tranny. However the car was a piece of crap and I spent 19k fixing it after given to me Id never buy a ford. Now at 171,450 Miles, tranny slipping .alternator replaced 2x coil pack 3x brakes about 5x, egr valve bad, evap 401 codes, sensors bad, oil leaks geezus thanks but no thanks for the engine ! V6 engines are better than 4 cyl though I had in camry that was too big fir the 4 cyl back in 93 engine burnt out at 166k miles. My accord rusted out at 164k miles due to rear ended ollision, yes accidents rust your car prematurly, so do tiny underpowerd engines. here
If we hadn't figured this out it would have cost a lot of money to get the transmission checked out and probably a nice sum to 'fix' one thing or the other. Hopefully, this will help you, and will solve your problem. here
i had a new battery put in today. Then my transmission started slipping. The service man said it was due to to unhooking the battery. That the transmission has to 'reset'. Which I think could be true, because we drove the car around for a while. Then took it on the highway. After a while, the transmission slipping stopped. Otherwise, he couldn't figure out what happened, until I reminded him that I had replaced the battery. Does this make sense to anyone? here
Does anyone know why this is happening and what the cure is?
Son changed transmission and fluid in my car, had to disconnect the battery to get the transmission to engage and now the transmission is slipping. Previously the transmission was working perfectly. [links]
On a 30 degree incline, I parked my manual transmission SUV. My handbrake is not working so I engaged my shifter to 1st gear. But when I released the foot brake pedal, the car slides down gradually and intermittently. What must be wrong?

I can start it, and immediately put it into drive and, it drives fine for about 50 yards then it goes into neutral. I shut it off, let it sit for maybe 30 minutes or more then it engages properly for again, 50 yards or less then, goes into neutral again. I checked the fluid, per users manufacturer says, it's more Burgundy than Red but, the level seems okay. So, I don't know what else to do. more
Hey Eddie not sure if my previous question went through or not, but I have a 2010 Corolla S 135k miles and have been having this issue since about 80k miles. When accelerating transmission often slips, revs increase significantly before car jumps forward into gear. All fluids are level, even had the transmission flushed and filter changed, taken to multiple mechanics can’t find the issue. more
