I don't think I'd put a 24 footer on that trailer. You'd have too much boat hanging unsupported off the end. You really don't want any of the toons to extend past the ends of the bunks. Also, any barge over 21' really needs two axles. If you find a boat and trailer you love before you find a boat to fit that trailer go ahead and pull the trigger. I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble getting back what you paid for it. FWIW, around here it's kind of tough to find 24 footers with trailers because the original owners buy them and have them delivered to slips, then sell the slip access along with the barge. That may account for the trouble you're having. more

Hi,
I have been pricing pontoon boats and it seems that i can find the best deals on boats with no trailers. I need a boat with a trailer so i was going to buy a trailer seperate and then buy a boat. I am looking to pickup a single axle 21' pontoon trailer, galvanized, looks to be in great shape, not a scissor trailer. I offered him $600 and he accepted.

My questions are: Will this trailer fit any 18' -21' pontoon? Are all the width's the same on those boats? Can i jam a 24' pontoon on the 21' trailer?

Most trailer manufacturers classify their trailers by boat size. PT-20/13, WFB-120/10, PTB-2023-10, KDP-1820-27, PT-1925 are but a few examples. The first number usually represents the boat length. Another number often indicates the tire size 10”,12”, 13”. Another may represent the carrying capacity: 23-2300 lbs., 25-2500 lbs., 27-2700 lbs. The five trailers listed above are about 23’-25’ length overall. The KDP trailer fits boats 18’ to 20’ and most of the trailers above could fit a boat 18’ to about 21’ in length.

You need a trailer longer than the boat to allow enough swing radius in a tight turn. The front of a 20’ pontoon tube could hit the back of the tow vehicle in a tight turn on a trailer that was only 20’ long. Trailers for every size pontoon should be 3’ to 4’ longer than the pontoon boat. A trailer for a 20’ boat should be 23’-24’. A trailer for a 24’ should be 27’-28’ length overall.

In the photo to the left, the bunk could perhaps be a few inches longer, but with the weight in the back it’s immaterial. here

Essential for any boat with a tri-toon, this tri-tube kit supports your center tune and comes with a winch stand that can hold a heavier load. Please let us know either the shape and length of your middle toon, or the year make and model of your boat as some boats have a longer middle tube and require a different type of tri-tune kit. here

When loading your pontoon onto your bunk style trailer load guides are a great way to insure your pontoon goes on straight and stays on. Especially in windy conditions or stronger river currents, load guides make loading or launching easier and safer. here

Make your trailer stand out with and aluminum plated diamond tread on all the steps, fenders, and frame! Not only does this addition make your trailer look pretty, but it reduces scratching and scuffing on these high traffic areas. [links]

2.) What size motor is on your pontoon?- When your pontoon has a bigger motor, it adds a lot of extra weight to your pontoon. Be sure to look into the holding capacity of the trailer when making your decision. more
